2nd Wednesday Fun Hike - Skyline Ridge Park
开云体育Wednesday, August
10th. 7~9 PM.
It looks like the weather might be a little damp on Wednesday, bring rain gear and a towel to dry off your fuzzy buddy when we get back to the cars!. This hike explores
beautiful forested areas and occasionally a nice view of the city. From Farmer’s Loop Road turn up Summit Drive (across from the Musher’s Hall) Follow Summit Drive to Cranberry Ridge Drive and turn left, stay on Cranberry Ridge Drive as it zigs and zags it’s way up, until you hit Noel Drive. Take Noel to the left. The trailhead is on the left right on the corner just where Noel takes a 90 degree to the right and changes names to Mia. Our Lead for this hike is Kate |
ride, pls - Re: [fahc] July 3rd Wednesday social hike - Ester Dome
Hi there! - my SUV is having issues. Can someone please pick me up if I drive to the parking pullout area (between the UAF botanical gardens and Sheek Creek Road) where the walkers and XC skiers park? I'd appreciate a ride up the hill for our walk. I can be waiting there around 6:40. Thanks! - Cat Cat Stephenson

2nd Wednesday Fun Hike. Skyline Ridge Park
Hi All!
The hike this evening is on! Air quality on the ridge is good; weather forecast for remainder of the day is clear. This time, remind me to stop at the Fairbanks overlook at the power line that intersects the trail near the west end, between the antenna and big cleared “parking lot.” Kate Millburg (573) 821-2308 |
Tonight's Hike for Wednesday, July 6th is CANCELLED
Air Quality Index as of 4:30 PM today is still above 170 (180 and 184) at the stations nearest the hike. Therefore, TONIGHT'S HIKE IS CANCELLED. Hopefully things will clear up for next week's hike.? Here is a good link to see data from monitoring stations in your area: Stay safe out there! - Ariane |
Re: Hike tomorrow (Saturday, June 25)
The air quality today is moderate. I decided not to go on?the granite tors hike. You may want to check facebook for the current status of the hike. Stay healthy everyone. Carol On Fri, Jun 24, 2022 at 7:54 PM Carol Lokken via <clokken3=[email protected]> wrote:

Hike tomorrow (Saturday, June 25)
Carol & I are hiking granite tors on Saturday . Meeting at the parking lot at 10 am. This is about a 15-16 mile hike so it will be all day , or one can go up to the Lizzards eye & turn around there. I think we will be traveling counter clockwise through the trail.? Bring a lunch , rain coat in case it gets stormy , water , mosquito repellent..& if you have bear spray , bring that too. ? This hike is listed in Kyle Jollys ' outside in the interior' for a description. Page 74. Meet at the Granite tors parking lot at 10 . This is in the chena recreational area. Friendly dogs are welcome to come too ? PS…it is a pretty rigorous hike in terrain and distance. You may want to check your email or Facebook before heading out to see if anything has changed (cancellation due to smoky conditions, etc). Bring a lot of water; it’s expected to be a very warm day last time I checked conditions. |

Re: Run or walk in the Race Against Racism
Robyn, If I registered, do I need to be at the JP Morgan Community Center as early as 6 or can I show up later than that? Sue Renes On Mon, Jun 13, 2022 at 6:58 AM - Robyne <robyne@...> wrote:

Run or walk in the Race Against Racism
Hello Hikers, May I humbly ask that you consider joining us tomorrow evening, June 14 at the J.P. Jones Center.?After a two-year gap, the??is happening again. ? We last ran the race in 2018 and 2019, and had a lot of people walk the course. If you decide to run it, you will find it flat and?easy. There is a?lot of fun?to be had by walking through neighborhoods on a June evening. But more importantly, there is a great Fairbanks history lesson as you pass by important landmarks that remind us of the contributions of people of diverse backgrounds. It is not a fundraiser; it is a consciousness-raiser. There is even a sort-of-scavenger-hunt option for?. Challenge the kids with?!? Please register for the race here:??or pass this on to friends who are interested. Thank you for indulging me. Robyne Race Against Racism Alaska, 2022 |

Hike, Hamburger and Music Tomorrow
We will meet at the Golden Eagle Saloon in Ester at 1:30 pm tomorrow (Sunday). The hike will require a shuttle, so we will then drive to the trailhead. The hike will start at Ester Dome Road and Henderson Road. We will then hike down to Ester, have a beer, cook a burger, and then listen to music by locals. Hikers are welcome to hike back up ester dome, but should know the trail.? This is an easy hike; plan on about 1.5 hours.? It is always a popular and fun hike.

Hike Tomorrow
I haven’t been on this trail for quite a few years and would like to check it out. We are meeting on September Court tomorrow at 12 noon. Take Pandora to Pine Wood to Green Leaf to September Court. Pandora Rd is about 1.8 miles from Vallata. I can meet anyone at Vallata if they want to carpool. Since we are parking in a small neighborhood on the street, I’d like to minimize the number of vehicles. Plan on about 2 hours. It’s not a difficult trail, pretty flat if I remember correctly. Carol

Volunteer
The 5K Mosquito Meander run/walk this Saturday is a fundraiser for RCPC (Resource Center for Parents and Children; where Peggy works). They are looking for about 9 volunteers to work the race. I am holding a sign at one of the mile markers, cheering on the walkers and runners.?
We are meeting in the front parking lot at Pioneer Park Saturday at 8 am, working until 1 pm. As a big bonus, they are feeding all the volunteers after the race.? If you are?interested?in volunteering, text Peggy at 907-590-2868. ? |
Re: 2nd Wednesday Fun Hike. Skyline Ridge Park
开云体育Hi all:(1) After we drive up Summit about 1.3 miles to?Cranberry Ridge Drive, the road gets rough. ?We stay on Cranberry Ridge Drive about .8 miles; we go left, right, left — then hang a right onto Noel Dr, then a quick left to stay on Noel. Remember - if in doubt, choose the direction that takes you up higher. Then about .4 miles on Noel to the parking area. Watch out for potholes and deep gullies! ?We hit one at moderate speed and nearly left the bumper in the road. You could also park at Musher’s Hall and carpool up to the trail. (2) The main Skyline Ridge trail is about 1.25 miles one way. So the round-trip distance from the trailhead at MIA Street to the other end by the antenna off Ski Boot Hill Road will be about 2.5 miles. ?Folks who want to go farther, or get a little more aerobic workout, can take the Secret Trail / Goldstream Connector bypass. ?That combo is about 1.85 miles and connects to the main trail at the trailhead and at a point just past the middle of the main trail. Regards, Kate Millburg

Page Where: Meet at the
trailhead on Chena Hot Springs Road. Go past the entrance to Angel Rocks, over
the bridge and take the first left. This is a no fee parking
area!
What: We'll hike up
the lower side of the Chena Dome Trail to meet Jenny and her intrepid crew who
have been hiking the entire loop since Friday evening. They will be tired and
sore and happy to see friendly faces.
This hike has more
switchbacks and is not as aggressive as last Monday's hike on the Upper trail.
There WILL be mosquitos especially on the first few miles before we start
climbing up out of the river valley.
The weather will be
very much like it is today. Bring more water than you think you'll need, and
don't forget to bring some for your dog as well. There is a spring at about 2
miles in, but in all the decades I've hiked this trail I've only found water
there once, so don't count on
it. |
