FYI.? A friend shared this internal email from the Department of the Interior re Zoom. It seems like they are becoming more nuanced and more practical in their views of Zoom.

As the Department continues to practice social distancing by teleworking, there has been a significant increase in teleconferencing and the use of online collaboration tools. DOI has multiple available to meet your !

We know many of you are receiving invitations to attend Zoom meetings from other federal agencies or partners. While it is permissible to use Zoom for video calls on your government-furnished equipment, it is important to follow the guidance outlined below.

Important note: If your bureau has released guidance indicating you are not authorized to attend Zoom calls, follow your bureau¡¯s guidance.

Key guidance for attending a Zoom meeting:

  • Only use Zoom for meetings version 4.6.9 or above when attending meetings.
  • Check to see if your Zoom meeting has a meeting ID and password. If it doesn¡®t, you may want to consider not attending and/or encouraging your host to password-protect the meeting.
  • Do not share sensitive information such as during Zoom calls.

Key guidance for hosting a Zoom meeting:

If you believe you have a business need to host a meeting through Zoom, you must first contact your to determine if Zoom is appropriate for your business need and if a Zoom for Government license is available. In order to host a Zoom meeting, you must have a Zoom for Government license.
