97 eurovan propane tank

Turned on the propane last week and it made a hissing noise - figured it was probably the knob or a connection. When I spoke to a local rv dealer he said he was unable to work on the tank as it was older than ten years and would need to be replaced. Apparently this is a requirement in Ontario. Have any Ontario owners run into this before and is there any way around it? Thought about having it checked next time we were in the states. or do they have the same rule?

Wow this means that lots of Ontario campers will be on the market cheap!?? I have a 21 year old Westfalia from BC and the tank has never been changed.?? I live in Alberta and over the years I have owned get this 21 Eurovan Campers and Rialtas/?? Some were bought in Canada but most were imported from the USA.?? I have never had issues with the propane tanks.? I have replaced the propane valve controls because idiots have taken pipewrenches and broken them, but I usually go to the propane supplier and give me 4 or 5 from a barrel of condemned barbecue tanks.?? Since your camper was converted by Winnebago call them and see if they can source you a new tank/?? I think you may find if they have new tanks they are manufactured in 1995.?? I mean the production run on these campers ended in North America more than 10 years ago.??? I have owned both the Winnebago and Westfalia converted campers and I am pretty sure the tanks are not identical.?? German tanks for the Eurovan Westfalias are still available from the fatherland from vwbusshop? click on the Union Jack for English. and find the T4 camper.

I just this day replaced the?? 22 YEAR OLD? group 29 80 amp hours dryfit brand camper battery with 2 group 27 Walmart 120 amp hour marine batteries.?? Too bad I could not source another one of those batteries here.!

Good luck

I rebuilt my propane system last year- had a leak in one of the hoses ( poor factory crimp). Europarts.com has quite a selection of propane parts. Got all my parts from them. Was quite a job to drop the tank- but also saved a whole lot of money!

My OEM tank started "hissing" back in 2012, and I was hoping to be able to repair it as Sam had. No such luck. My leak emanated from the female service port.. where some idiot had overtightened it fracturing the threads. Once apart, the propane tech pronounced it irrepairable. Bottom-line... new tank for $450 from GoWesty. New one had a different stone guard, giving me an extra inch of ground clearance, but same same mounting, and included the interior half of the remote level gauge. My old exterior half worked, and I have yet to figure out how to remount it securely, being inherently lazy...... ?no way should any of us accept a leaky propane tank

Thanks for posting about your propane project. What exactly did you do? Hoses, on-off LP valve, regulator? Did you empty the tank? Did you replace the LP fill valve too?

Working with propane, did you do the work outdoors?

My problem was the hose from the valve to the regulator( bad crimp) and the regulator. Dropped the tank- replaced the hose and the regulator - and all is well.

If you have a valve problem- you will probably have to replace the tank- don't know if the valve comes off easily. Usually the fill valve and the level indicator are OK!

I found that most propane dealers are not equipped to deal with these problems. That's why I just ordered all new parts from Europarts.com ( there may be other sources- don't know). I tried to find someone to make me a new hose- but no takers.
