Re: super11.....excess V10P?

I'm using an Automation Direct GS2-22P0 from www.automationdirect.com.
Let me know if you want some info on how to deal with the 2 speed
motor.

I looked at that VFD unit. Pretty reasonable cost @235.00

I was thinking of getting a Westinghouse unit as I
have a 1hp unit already and figured on making use
of already having beaten the learning curve...though
the 2hp unit is 275.00

Here is a QC tool post that looks like it would fit:

Though I am not sure how "Quick" it is given
that you use a wrench.

Even the blurb says it fits the V10

Illinois.

The machine is pristine. It came with a 3 jaw.
and that is about it.

It must have had a bunch of other stuff that is
lost amongst the boxes... The guy sent me
boxes of random lathe parts; stuff that
obviously does not go with this lathe.
A thread on face plate, all kinds of bizarre
tooling from other lathes.

There was tantalizing evidence of other things;
I got +one+ of the three outside jaws from the 3jaw.

a piece of the emco tool post grinder.

A wrench that goes with the collet draw bar.

Sort of tragic when you realize that all these things
that are so valuable together but
valueless by themselves.... Who wants a
single jaw for a 3 jaw?

I looked at the parts list in the files section.
GREAT help.... anyone have a manual??

Re: super11.....excess V10P?

Would this be the recent Ebay machine from Indiana?

I'm currently sorting through an almost new 11 from a public school.
Seriously well built machine. Makes my old 9x20 and Atlas 12x36 seem
like toys.

Let me know if you need any pics or measurements to compare against.

I have the 4 way post. The ability to move the handle out of the way
to tighten a bolt without loosening the post is a nice touch.

I'll let you know which way things go once I get a quick change post on
it.

I'm using an Automation Direct GS2-22P0 from www.automationdirect.com.

The exploded parts views from Barrie are in the files section. There
are several different views of the same assembly, seems the latest are
for C6E models (check your serial number) Mine is C6P-8407014, but the
C6E drawings seem pretty accurate so far.

super11.....excess V10P?

almus_kenter

My long quest for a super-11 has finally ended.
I managed to get a pristine unit indirectly from
a machine-shop that closed.

When I finally get it up and running I will
probably be parting with my V10P and/or Compact8.
If I manage to get the S11 in the same location
as my V10P my wife will (hopefully) never know the difference.
If anyone has any interest in the machines drop my a line.
I am located in SE New Hampshire.
Proceeds of sale will feed the tooling needs
of the S11.

Part of my motivation was to get something slightly bigger
that took standard tooling. I was getting tired of
searching for the rare L20 collet stuff, and
proprietary emco tooling. Between the
C8 and the V10 I had most of everything..
but I would often lust at all the 5C collet
stuff.

My new machine is 3PH, has an emco 3Jaw.
It is(++i think++) D1-4 cam lock.
Overall the machine is pretty bare but
it is practically in new shape. No collets,
1-3/8" spindle bore. It has the original
simple/crappy tool-post.

I will need a VFD before it comes to life.

NO manuals or documentation...so if anyone out there has a set they
could photo-copy I would be most grateful.

Re: Upload of files

Ok I have sent the file to you by pm.

See what you can do with it, I only got about 8% compression with
winzip, seems like there is no problem uploading files around the
1.5Mb size but these 4Mb babes seem to bounce back.

Off topic: The cabinet doors are open. The doors take a skeleton key
with a 3mm pilot hole. Easy enough to mill one out of 1/4" x 1"
aluminum and grind to fit. Ugly, but doors are open.

I also considered installing a riser on the head and tails stocks.

Add-ons to the V10P

I am thinking of changing the start - stop & maybe the forward -
reverse to a lever on the carriage. Has anyone done this? I would
like to share ideas.

Also, I would like to add a brake? Anyone have a recommendation where
this should go?

My V10P is 3phase; not sure if that makes any difference. I have a
VFD for the lathe, but have not decided to installed it yet. I know,
I know it would make the above changes a breeze.

Any ideas & comments are welcome.

I will upload some more files tonight, I have the Super 11 service
parts book from the old Super 11 site, it is a PDF I can read it but
cannot upload it as yahoo says there is no data in the file (there
damned well is !)

I will take down some of those big colourful PDF's once we can get
more interesting material avalible.

Re: toolposts

I have run into the toolpost problem too. The compound is just too tall for a nice quick
change post. I have a Harding L18 dovetail tool post that I thought would be just perfect.
As it turned out, I ended up milling the bottoms of the slots for the lathe bits down to get
them near center. On the cut off block, I milled a funny shape into it's bottom, to match
the shape of the corner of the compound, for clearance. My latest solution, which isn't a
real good one, was to mill a chunk of steel into a appropriately dimensioned riser block
and just ignore the compound altogether. Needless to say, threading doesn't work with
this...
So, do I build another compound that is set to a better center height? I am pondering this.
I am not too impressed with the stock compound as it is. It seems to flimsy and ends up
with too much overhang.

Dan
