Bill, I cannot say that the motor is built with
lesser parts. He uses brand new OMC lower units and
quality PM motors, PM controllers etc.
I just know
that he does seem to have some sort of "quality in
design" problem.
For instance, one person I know had
taken his boat out five different times and the motor
would only run for about an hour and shut down. (not a
fuse problem). The sixth time he got the motor back,
the PM motor had been changed to a different part
number? Simular problems with others I know.

Also
when I was considering buying a "Ray" or "resevoir
runner" type motor, I was calling around locally to
inquire about them, and was given numerous comments to
the same effect.

One other thing. Around here,
Baltimore Washington area, there are five major lakes that
only allow Electric Propulsion". People who frequent
these
lakes are mainly fisherman who are only conserned with
getting from point A to B with as much speed as possible.
The "Ray" motors are fast, very dependable and pretty
efficient. For the most part, so are Golf Cart motors. (just
not as battery friendly :)
I have been in two
"resevoir runner" motored boats and the speed did not
inpress me...Everyone that I know that has owned one, has
gotten rid of it and either bought a "Ray" or went back
to the series wound type motors.

I have never
heard of any problems with the Ray
Electric!

Scott
