Re: Naive newbie questions
That motor and parts seems perfect for what you want to do. Good price, all installation parts supplied just mount and connect to drive shaft, plug in all the controls, connect up to battery and away

Posted the link separately. I have an 18’ custom built (1934) launch that was converted to 48V electric by the second owner. I am the 3rd owner, and my plan is to add the golf cart system to

Re: Naive newbie questions
Thanks for replying
Thunderstruck looks great but I'm on a budget and the sailboat is not worth a lot. I would happily go with thunderstruck for a bigger boat I could see myself having for 5-10

Re: Naive newbie questions
Go to www.thunderstruck-ev.com ( http://www.thunderstruck-ev.com ) - they are reputable dealers for everything you need. I purchased 2 sets - 48v/10kW water-cooled PMAC motors, Sevcon Gen4 controllers

Naive newbie questions
Hi!
I'm a new owner of a 27 foot ~4800 pounds displacement sailing boat with a struggling Yanmar 80's diesel engine.
I'm already tired of the smell, leaks and continous breaking and am super keen on

Re: Ang.:Re: [electricboats] One engine down...looking for solutions/suggestions
I think mosslanding's idea is more reliable. The motor bearings can easily
support the weight of the motor. A torque arm that is flexible in the
radial and axial directions, but rigid in the

Thanks, that makes sense.
was thinking I would build "play" into the system and if I mounted it on the four corners of top of the Sail-Drive transmission casing then I would have a method for either

Look into a torque arm with a solid coupling. Alignment will always be
assured.

Re: One engine down...looking for solutions/suggestions
I don’t know anything about your controller, but some (many?) do have programmable throttle response profiles & types. I know that mine (an ALLTRAX AXE4836 DC mtr controller) can be set to use an

Direct coupled motor :
For a saildrive, it might require a flexible joint, if the motor is mounted right on top of the saildrive vertical shaft. This depends on your alignment skills. It could even be

My error - the voltage spec is max 200.6, (48 cells * 4.17v). I scanned too quickly.

Re: Ang.:Re: [electricboats] One engine down...looking for solutions/suggestions
When the spec on the motor says 50KV, they mean RPM/volt, not kilo-volt. This is typical for the model airplane or car. Note that they spec 48v max voltage.
Search for 'electric motor kv' or

Re: One engine down...looking for solutions/suggestions
So, my question now :
Can the electric motor torque (rough) be tamed by the motor controller,
just by programming (torque min/max, by the amps applied to it) , to make a
"smooth shift" from forward to

You're right Myles about missing information. I have found it pretty hard
to get a lot of information from most companies except the ones that don't
have the motors you want. I think your calcs based

Hangzhou Reacher Technology is a company that makes motors like this. They
might be worth a visit.

Alas, I didn’t consider resistive loss…but then, that’s difficult to figure given the lack of detail.
