Re: 39' sloop conversion
I recently reviewed my sea trial data for Sunshine, a 12m, 23,000# cat using twin ME1302 10kW water-cooled PMAC motors from Thunderstruck with a 3:1 reduction. if you are OK wire a cruising speed of 5

Re: AC vs DC gensets, how many?
You say you are doing a parallel hybrid. I have used the Steyr system in my 12m solar cat. My assumption is that your system, like my Steyr one, charges the battery while the diesel is propelling the

Re: 2:1 reduction gear
I ended using a Browning EPT 3200 series helical gear drive with C Face adapter for my set up. Downside I needed to have a drop pan fabricated to sit over the stringers in the engine compartment.

Re: 2:1 reduction gear
Thunderstruck has a pre-built reduction that might work for you. https://www.thunderstruck-ev.com/custom-ac-gear-reduction.html

2:1 reduction gear
I'm looking into re-battery and a general re-jigging of my system. I've been running a 36v system but never running the controller over 50% throttle. Now that my T145s have shown signs of needing to

AC vs DC gensets, how many?
We are in planning to parallel hybridise our 50' powercat. One of the questions (of many!) is the genset. We have an old Onan 6.5kW AC. We would probably remove it. But we will need more than solar to

Winfield, Is that your first or last name? Anyway, I'll attach some photos of my boat. It is not anybody's "stock" boat but it is built with known hardware. Please ask me any questions. There are two

Re: 39' sloop conversion
Matt, Not so sure you would be satisfied with a 12kW system.? Staying at 48v is safer but you would be better served with a motor that more closely matched the design criteria of the boat builder.?

Re: 39' sloop conversion
Matt, There is one initial problem with your plan. Thunderstruck is not correct when they claim the ME1616 will produce 12kW continuous at 48V. The motor is a three phase AC motor. You will be lucky

I can tell you the max amperage you should get from the two charge controllers is 50amps. I have a 38¡¯ trimaran at 9k lbs with the same motor and am at the end of the install but the beginning of
