Re: Chat Last Monday

Yep - that headlined in our paper this morning - rush hour on the net! Brings back memories of the LA Freeway - blegh - I can almost taste the smog!

Chat Last Monday

donaldbaer

In case you were among those who had problems
Like me. I believe there was a problem with Yahoo's
server. There was a news Flash that a group of hackers
were bombarding the server and disrupting
comunications. I guess it was our bad luck to have the chat
scheduled for that time.

Timing is
everything

Don

Great chat - whens the next one...

american_sailor_girl

this is a case of keep the old computer around if
it works. Seems like the newest version of yahoo
chat is crashing a lot due to it's new voice
compatability - if you have an older computer without this new
feature - it works faster and seamlessly. On the flip
side my curiousity to do live chat is up. I will look
into for next months designated chat. Who schedules
that?

Re: Chat

bselco

yes, enjoyed the chat until about 9:05 p.m. EST,
when computer or yahoo or something kicked me off the
chat and then wouldn't let me back in--kept getting a
blank gray screen where the chat used to be. anybody
else have that problem?

till next time...

Re: Chat

Had a blast at the chat...and no
commercialism..just fun. Paul I would suggest that for the next chat
we pick a subject that folks have questions
about..ie..why do smaller electric motors do the same work as
larger Fossil Fuel motors?...or...what RPM motors are
best suited for pushing props?...or...which batteries
will work best? These general subjects should spur a
lot of conversation and answer questions for those
that are trying to understand. I stand ready to help
in any way you wish.

Missed Chat

PPreuss

Glad to learn that the Chat did indeed take
place.
I have to find out what is keeping my computer from
completely loading the page. Sorry I missed it. Yes - let's
do it again. If their are any volunteers who have a
topic and want to serve as an initiator - just pick a
time and let's do it.

A very enjoyable chat

Thank you for putting the chat together - lets do it again- aloha - gabriella

I also had what I took to be trouble I thought my
PC was not working, then one day after getting what
I thought was a unworkable page walked away to get
a fresh cuppa, tried again when I returned. Low and
behold it worked. With no indication on the screen it
takes over a Min. to down load, then it works fine. Try
waiting for it. Wishing you luck. Billy

Chat

PPreuss

I am having trouble getting my computer to load
the club Chat Room. So...... unless I can find out
how - I will be missing at tonight's discussion. The
room seems to load but then at the very end it stops
and leaves blank boxes on the screen. Yahoo help desk
has not been helpful so far. Will try again.

Re: E-meter Reset

Try a manual reset after a full recharge, then
discharge below the 10% and then recharge again
makeing
sure the meter see's all AH removed are
replaced.

Yes, I have done this, except for the fact that I
don't know how to make "sure the meter see's all AH
rmoved are replaced." The rest I've done

I
noticed your recharge voltage is set very low (36.1) is
this to make it more simple for the
meter??(should
have been 42 or so).
Yes, exactly. I started out
with higher values but kept lowering them, trying to
get a reset.

Thanks for helping with
this.

Larry

You mite not have met the others, dsicharge below
10% and replace all AH the "meter" has seen
removed.
Try a manual reset after a full recharge, then

Re: E-meter Reset

cedarcroft

Thanks, Joe. Yes, I'd read that and was using it
to choose my settings. I guess the question, put
more precisely, is why don't the settings mentioned in
my original note meet these requirements? Of course,
it's always possible that there's something wrong with
my meter (I have a note in to tech support at CEC,
but no response at this point). But being a novice at
this I have a strong tendency to believe it's me, not
the meter!

Larry

Re: E-meter Reset

ecbjoe

Hi Larry,
page 17 of CEC manual says you need
to meet 5 conditions for a reset to "0".
(1)
Discharge past 10% declared battery capacity to trigger
algorithim.
(2)Charge until 100% KWH removed hwve been returned to
battery.
(3) charge voltage must be above charge voltage
parameter.
(4) Charge current below charge current
parameter.
(5) Conditions 3 & 4 met for 5 minutes.
Just have
to give it what it wants or use the manual reset
(after a complete charge reset AH to zero through the
reset function.
Good Luck
Joe

E-meter Reset

cedarcroft

I cant get my E-meter (Cruising Eqpt. Model
890015) to do a reset after charging.

I have a
36V system, 240 AH battery bank and Im charging with
a Lester Mfg. "Lestronic II" automatic charger
which I believe finishes at 8A.
I have tried
various settings on the E-meter now in order to get a
reset. At present I have it set for 36.1V finish, 240AH
bank and 7% amp draw. Seems like my finish voltage
should easily exceed the setting and my finish amp draw
should easily drop below 16.8A (7% X 240) which I gather
is what the meter needs to see for a reset.

I
would be grateful for any suggestions.

Larry

OpSail2000

PPreuss

OpSail2000 is perhaps the major maritime event on
the East Coast for this year. Vessels from over 60
nations will participate in an 8 city tour along the East
Coast - from May to the end of July. Many of these
ships will be Tall Ships.
To find out more - go to:
www.opsail2000.org

Calendar

PPreuss

Yahoo offers a calendar feature which we have not
used for our club. I have opened it up, posted our
Chat and also the dates for OpSail2000. More on that
in my next posting. Club members should feel free to
post dates for electric boat, or even major maritime
events. The rationale for posting other maritime events
is that they may provide a destination for those of
us looking for places to put our boats in special
places.

Re: Commercialism

PPreuss

Don - Rather than fragment our efforts we can
list suppliers, builders, etc right on our own links
page here at the club. All you have to do is add them
to the page. Any member can do that. Or, if you
still prefer to maintain your own page, I would ask
that you place a link on the club page so that all
those coming to the club can find your page. Likewise,
place a link to the club on your page so that those
going there can find the club.
Paul

One of my first needs when shopping for an
electric propulsion system was:
1. proof before my
very own eyes by using one
2. referals from owners
of such systems
3. references in the form of
articles
A club roster for EBA members in the form of
a simple data base would help us query the system
for:
1. location of boat
2. email of owner
3. type
of boat - ie sailboat, monohull, etc...
4.
propulsion system
Does something like this exist? Then I
could simply query for a monohull sailboat in the
pacific northwest with an electric propulsion system and
get a list of email addresses and thus opinions and
references- not to mention comradery and a few blustery
sailing trips... Aloha - Gabriella
