EAGLE'S PREY: VILLA RIDES Free Scenario: Encounter at Ojos Azules
May 4th, 1916 Background: On May 4th 1916, a report reached US forces that a group of Villistas numbering between 200 to 300 men under the command of Julio Acosta was camped at the Ojos Azules Hacienda. This force had just defeated a federal force under the command of Major Lopez and it was this Major who was now asking for US military help to protect the nearby town of Cusihuiriachic from further attacks by the Villistas. Major Robert L. Howze assembled a force of six troops of the11th Cavalry, a machine gun troop, a pack train (with 3 days supplies plus ammunition) and 20 Apache scouts under the command of 1st Lt. James A. Shannon, approximately 320 men in total. On arriving at Cusihuiriachic, Howze discovered that Lopez had received orders not to assist or cooperate with the US force, so was forced by circumstance to hire a local Mexican doctor as a guide. Howze ordered his force to perform a night march in order to achieve complete tactical surprise. Scenario: Beginning at the 6am Day Segment on May 4th, Howze conceived a plan for an all round envelopment with his Apache scouts moving in a wide flanking movement to seize the high ground behind the ranch while the rest of the command advanced covered by the machine guns, one troop directly while the others moved on from the left and right.? Give this Free Scenario a try with VILLA RIDES! |

Battle of Champion Hill (May 1863) After Action Report
We recently had the chance to play the Battle of Champion hill using?Eagle's Prey: Advance and Retreat. The scenario was great fun with each player facing similar dilemmas as the historical generals.?The rules do a great job of capturing the feel of Civil War combat without bogging down the players with too much paperwork or minutia. In total, 35 units were engaged (16 US inf, 4 US arty, 11 CS inf, 4 CS arty) with each infantry unit representing a brigade. Grant Reaches Champion Hill: By the time Grant¡¯s first brigades reached the base of Champion Hill, there were five confederate brigades holding the summit. Upon receiving a volley of Federal fire however, Cumming¡¯s Georgians routed causing two other brigades to follow suit. On a side note, this was the result of three comically unlucky rolls by the confederate player (rolling 02, 07, and 05 on percental dice). I, being the confederate player, decided I had better stop using my "lucky" dice before I ran out of units, and switched to a different d100 set for the remaining two brigades (which both passed their moral checks easily). Fight for Champion Hill: The remaining two confederate brigades held out for as long as they could. Lee¡¯s brigade charged down the hill and checked the union advance, capturing the colors of one hapless regiment. A brigade from Bowen¡¯s division (confederate center) also made a good showing of itself by holding off two union brigades despite being disordered. However, in the end, it was not enough to stop the advancing hordes of Yankees. Pemberton Orders Withdrawal: Considering discretion the better part of valor, Pemberton ordered the remaining confederate forces to fallback to a prepared position on the Big Black River (off the board). ![]()

Re: Quick question about firing %
No sweat.? There isn't anything that is a bad question.
Yes, the percentage to hit is per Regiment. The artillery fires per tube.? Typically, to show how many tubes you have in a stand, you place a figure on it.? (4 figures to a base).? So you calculate the percentage to hit based on the number of tubes.? So, 4 figures is? 4 X number of tubes. HR GAMES |

Question about visibilty
Hi Manny I hope you are well.
Sorry another question, in the rules by the 'Visibility and fires' section it says visibility is limited to 18" except for Scouts who can see 24 ", is that just when there is fog and fires? Sorry might have missed the general spotting rules in another section Also quick question about the Eagles Prey Campaign rules, just wondering does the Civil war rules work along side them or are they are a separate set of rules? |

Re: Question about visibilty
Glad to clarify things for you.??
All forces are limited to 18" inches visibility (25mm Scale) Scouts can see into all terrain within 24 inches in bad weather/fog.? Normal visibility is 40" inches. Playing the Civil way Campaign, you can use any rules you wish to resolve the battles.? You can use Eagles Prey or you can use the recently released Eagle Prey: Advance & Retreat Rules. HR GAMES |

EAGLE'S PREY 2.0 Coming Soon
Its been ten years since the first release of EAGLE'S PREY: WARS FOR NORTH AMERICA and its been great!? We are now wrapping up the 2nd edition and we all hope you will be as excited about the prospect as we are.??
Gaming the period between 1824 and 1888 has always been fragmented before the arrival of Eagles Prey.? The system is flexible enough to allow players to focus on a certain war or battle such as the Mexican American War, the Texan War, the Seminole War, the American Civil War and the various colonial conflicts featuring the Russian and French Empires.?? With a comprehensive tactical and campaign system with a full color map of North America, EP really pulls it all together in the campaign system. Watch for the new edition to come out next month!
