[GGEVA] Trump ends 'electric vehicle mandate' in Day 1 executive order

California declared a right to set its own clean air standards before the EPA even existed. The rise of electric vehicles is due in part to CARBs existence. EAASV Election of Officers for 2025 & volunteer request
Hello and Happy New Year. It is time to elect our President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for 2025. All of our current officers are willing to serve again this year. We do not have term limits, although if any of our paid EVA members wish to run for one of these positions, you are welcome to do so. Feel free to reply to this email announcing your name and what position you are interested in along with a paragraph telling us a bit about yourself and why members should vote for you. On the ballot, they can put your name as a write-in candidate. We have online voting so you can go to the following link and cast your ballot. The deadline for voting is 11:59 PM January 17th. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf9DCdK8TrY9BZgV2vI15e_JY01Txj2JL5Rlnp0tgrL4INw6g/viewform?usp=sf_link Also, we are looking for volunteers who just want to help us with chapter activities. We have not had many meetings lately and could use some help finding guest speakers on EV related topics. We can either meet in person at Maker Nexus in Sunnyvale or online via Zoom - or both). If you can help us find guest speakers, please send an email to me: Jerry.Pohorsky@... During the year, we participate in various EV car shows, ride and drive events and health fairs. EV dealers often provide cars that guests can test drive, however we also have our EAASV members display their personal EV as well. This allows for a larger variety of EVs at the event and gives guests an opportunity to talk to an experienced EV driver who is not trying to sell them a car. The vast majority of people who attend these events do not have an EV, however they are usually open-minded and you can answer their questions and concerns. If you are willing to display your EV or perhaps take passengers for a demo ride (they will not drive your car for insurance reasons), please send an email to: BenWhite@... Let Ben know the make, model and year of your EV and your email address and cell phone number. Thanks for your consideration, Jerry Pohorsky Electric Vehicle Association Current Silicon Valley Chapter President eaasv.org

What EVs can use lever #3 chargers?

Hi Jerry, I know that Tesla has exclusive level #3 chargers. Are there other makes that can use level #3 chargers. With adapters, can they use Tesla chargers? Are there other makes of Level #3 chargers that any make of vehicle can use? Are public chargers pay per use or do they require a subscription? Thank you & Happy Holidays, Lou

What EVs can use level #3 chargers?
Hi Jeff, I'm not sure I could pass the "safety inspection" without working seat belts on the "bucket seat". (Image from internet) Currently I charge at home or arrange to have a friendly plug at my destination. My objective is to have an EV I can travel in and not get arrested for a violation of anti homeless law by sleeping in my car while waiting for a charge. Fantastic Kia EV6 lease deal in San Jose
2
Happy Holidays, Now is a great time to take advantage of the year end buyer's market for EVs - especially since the new US president has indicated he wants to remove EV incentives and "drill, drill drill" for fossil fuels. I wanted to get a Kia EV6, however I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Rock = a used 2022 EV6 costs over $25K, so it is not eligible for the used EV Federal tax credit. Hard Place = a new 2024 EV 6 purchase does not qualify for the $7500 Federal tax credit. However I found a sweet spot, which is the 2 year EV6 lease with a deep discount from Kia that is more than the new EV $7500 Federal tax credit (that it does not qualify for). The even better news is that they have ultra low lease prices at the Stevens Creek Kia dealer and their internet manager Carlos Ramirez is extremely knowledgeable about EVs and charging stations. They are advertising lease prices on their website for as low as $99 per month with $3995 due at signing. However, for full disclosure, the monthly lease payment and down payment will be somewhat higher when the taxes and normal new car registration and fees are included. The one I got was advertised at $119 per month. See attached photo. However when the additional taxes and fees were added it came to just under $160 per month - still a very good deal. The up front cost was just over $6700, which is way more affordable than buying the car and making loan payments. At the end of the lease, I can buy it for about $27K, however I was told that it may actually cost significantly less if I turn the leased car in and buy a certified pre-owned 2024 EV6 (due to higher depreciation). The car has rear wheel drive and over 300 miles of range. They gave me a bonus of 1,000 kilowatt-hours of DC fast charging with Electrify America. The car has an 800 volt battery pack (which keeps the batteries cooler than they would be in a 400 volt car) and can fast charge from 20% to 80% in under 20 minutes. Carlos spent a lot of time with me setting up the apps on my iPhone and configuring some of the features in the car to my preferences. You can tell him I sent you. https://www.stevenscreekkia.com/new-kia-ev6-best-finance-lease-specials-san-jose-ca.htm Jerry Pohorsky Electric Vehicle Association Silicon Valley Chapter President eaasv.org

CA $ for EVSEs Boiling Point: Newsom's foot on the gas
3
Hi All, CPUC $ for public EVSE installations from LA reporter. Plus SoCal info that you may or may not be interested in about electric home heating to replace gas appliances. Happy, Merry to All, Sybil From: Sammy Roth ¡ª L.A. Times <boilingpoint@...> December 17, 2024 View in browser Gov. Gavin Newsom speaks at a 2020 news conference at Cal Expo in Sacramento, where he announced an executive order requiring an end to the sale of gas-only passenger vehicles by 2035. (Daniel Kim / Pool Photo) Gov. Gavin Newsom has never hesitated to go to bat for electric vehicles. Even as slowing sales growth and former President Trump¡¯s reelection have called into question the feasibility of California meeting its aggressive clean car targets ¡ª a topic The Times¡¯ Russ Mitchell explored in one of his latest stories ¡ª Newsom has continued supporting EVs. Last week, his Public Utilities Commission approved $1.4 billion for EV charging stations and other clean transportation projects, Utility Dive¡¯s Robert Walton reports. ¡°With this investment, and the help of the private sector, we¡¯re building a bigger, better vehicle charging network that ensures Californians can reliably and affordably get where they¡¯re going,¡± Newsom said in a news release. It¡¯s important stuff. We need emission-free cars to cut air pollution and slow the climate crisis. And California has had great success: In the third quarter of this year, 26.4% of new cars sold in the state were zero-emission. Still, I wonder: Why hasn¡¯t the governor dedicated the same political capital to electric heating and cooking? Why hasn¡¯t he fought as hard to get natural gas out of our homes as he has to get gasoline out of our cars? To be clear, oil is a bigger contributor to climate change than natural gas. Transportation accounted for 39% of the state¡¯s heat-trapping carbon emissions last year, compared with 14% for residential and commercial buildings. But as I wrote last week, Newsom has at times talked a big game on gas. He pledged early in his first term that he would try to shut down Aliso Canyon ¡ª an L.A.-area facility that stores gas for use in homes, businesses and electric plants ¡ª bt 2027. Aliso sprang a record leak in 2015, spewing heat-trapping methane into the atmosphere and releasing toxic chemicals into L.A.¡¯s Porter Ranch neighborhood.ADVERTISEMENT Despite Newsom¡¯s pledge, there¡¯s been little progress toward closing Aliso. The governor¡¯s appointees are slated to vote Thursday on a plan that would probably keep it open into the 2030s ¡ª with no clear closure timeline. The problem isn¡¯t that Newsom has done nothing to help Californians ditch gas. Far from it. When I asked Terrie Prosper, a spokesperson for the California Public Utilities Commission, what the agency has done to cut gas demand, she pointed to several programs that have collectively resulted in the approval of $168 million in incentives for 75,000 electric space-and-water heaters (with hundreds of millions of dollars more yet to be approved). She also noted that the commission eliminated utility subsidies for new buildings that burn gas. Newsom¡¯s appointees at the California Energy Commission have taken action too. Although the agency hasn¡¯t banned gas hookups in new homes, disappointing activists, it voted in September to adopt a new energy code that will incentivize builders to use electric space and water heating in single-family and low-rise multifamily homes starting in 2026. Another agency will probably vote to finalizethe code this week. Protesters stage a sit-in outside an entrance to the Aliso Canyon gas storage field in 2017. (Al Seib / Los Angeles Times) In Southern California, meanwhile, a $71-million settlement between the state and Southern California Gas Co. ¡ª which owns and operates Aliso Canyon ¡ª should help some residents near the gas storage field go electric. Forty million dollars will go toward $1,000 rebates for SoCalGas customers to buy heat pumps, with priority given to residents of Porter Ranch and surrounding neighborhoods, as The Times¡¯ Andrew J. Campa reports. ¡°Thousands of dollars are

free THiNK City
Hi all, If you're interested in a free 2011/2012 THiNK City that needs a new accessory battery and possibly a set of traction batteries, please email me directly: jsarro at yahoo.com. The last time it was driven the range was ~30 miles, but it hasn't been driven in possibly the last 2 years. It has about 30K miles on it. The car is in Santa Clara. Seems she'd decided to part with it before I asked for a mechanic. But if you DO know of a mechanic for the battery, please do respond in case it helps someone considering the car. Thanks! JoAnne
