Hi Lou, Yes, I think (!) we can be pretty sure she's referring to the auxiliary 12 Volt battery, since there's no ICE to start in a Think.
As in most EVs, the 12 Volt battery runs lights, fans, etc., and it also allows the car's computer to close the contactor to allow the main battery pack to power the traction motor, etc.

I have used this local shop to work on my wife's Ford Plug-in hybrid. They mainly focus on Prius. I have seen a variety of EVs there for service also.
Their hours are a bit unusual but they do good work at a reasonable price.
For others on this email list, I have seen them working on Nissan Leaf battery replacements also and many of the early Leafs could benefit from a traction battery replacement. Might be worth checking with them for an alternative to going to a Nissan dealership.

This is due to the huge amount of time, effort and expense involved in a conversion.

Hello All, If you are interested in Electric Vehicles, consider attending one of our meetings. All EVA meetings are free and open to anyone who is interested in Electric Vehicles (EVs). The meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of every month. From 10 A.M. until 12 noon
The meetings are held at the Reid Hillview Airport terminal building. Located at 2500 Cunningham Ave, San Jose, CA Directions to the meetings are as follows. Take Hwy. 101 to Hwy. 680 North, exit & turn right onto Capital Expressway. Travel on Capital Expressway West for approximately 2 miles; turn right onto Cunningham. The meeting room is in the terminal at the end of the road. A typical meeting of the SJEVA is casual and informative. A round table is held after chapter business is completed. Topics are typically very technical from the folks who are building and driving real world electric vehicles today. Come attend a free EVA meeting and learn from EVA members who have been building and driving Electric Vehicles for 50 years.

Re: How Many Things Can A Bus Transit Study Get Wrong?
During our recent longer Thanksgiving Tesla trip (with newly over-the-air installed free Spotify account) we listened not only to this podcast (if you haven't yet, make sure you especially listen to the second part of this two-part podcast), but also listened to a few of Barnard's other podcasts.
This nicely-technical podcast resulted in a lot of teeth-gnashing (as does our own recent politics) as to how the populace (in this case city councils) can be duped.
Hi Folks, Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Does anyone happen to have a Tesla Mobile Connector that they're not using that we can buy? We need one to charge our RAV4 EV since I'm selling my Model 3 to a relative along with its Mobile Connector.
Please let us know if you happen to have an unused one we could use.

Best wishes to all of our EV communityfor a Happy Thanksgiving.

Distributed AI: Enabling Intelligent and Cooperative Systems Transforming Mobility and the Power Grid
The automotive industry is rapidly electrifying, and electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming mainstream. At the same time, vehicles are getting smarter, with autonomous systems and advanced connectivity transforming how we think about transportation. Similarly, transformational changes are occurring in the electric power sector at an unprecedented rate to balance the ever-increasing demand from electrification and AI Data Centers with increasing centralized and distributed renewables, via an intelligent grid. Both sectors rely heavily on semiconductors for power management, energy conversion, and communication. However, these sectors are also increasingly dependent ondistributed and decentralized computingto manage the complexity of their operations. Whether managing fleets of autonomous vehicles or balancing the power grid, the future relies on the seamless integration of semiconductor technologies and AI at the edge. The power, automotive, and semiconductor sectors face challenges: reducing energy consumption, improving efficiency, and managing increasingly complex systems. Distributed and decentralized AI and advanced semiconductors are essential to overcoming these challenges. These innovations underscore the need for cross-industry collaboration. By sharing knowledge and resources, we can develop solutions that advance all sectors, whether smarter EVs or grids that dynamically adapt to energy demands.

On the topic of "will EV charging crash the grid" -- I picked up a marketing research paper today on this topic. The paper can be retrieved from this link:
It's talking about "Managed Charging" as a solution for the "EV charging crash the grid" concern. BTW, my job is currently involved with an EV Charging Network where we're working on software about that issue.
The contention is that "managed charging" is required - meaning that EV charging is coordinated to prefer to happen during times when electricity demand is low. Such time periods will also correspond to times when the minute-to-minute electricity price is the lowest, such as mid-day when there's lots of solar electricity on the grid.
"Managed charging" requires an EVSE with enough intelligence to communicate over the Internet with something that can advise the EVSE to adjust the charging rate up or down.
