yeah I found the fuse issue when I searched earlier.. Supposedly
those fuses are near the 12V battery? I found some images, but it
still wasn't absolutely clear to me..
this was one of the pages I found while googling..
I guess I should see if my car code reader that I got long ago will
show me any more info.

Check the fuse first.
Agree with George that since the brakes work, but need to be pressed
very hard, it's probably the vacuum pump that's not working. ?
On most EVs, the brake booster vacuum pump is electrically powered,
and the fuse not working could prevent the pump from coming on.
So check the fuse first.
