"Piper Rudder AD - Let See What Its All About"
Topic: There Is a New AD on Piper Aircrat Rudders and Find Out How It Applies to You
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 19:00 Eastern Daylight Time (16:00 PDT; 17:00 MDT; 18:00 CDT; 13:00 HST; 15:00 AKDT; 16:00 Arizona; 23:00 GMT)

Select Number:
EA39136933

Description:

The final rule on the AD, released February 13 and effective March 20, requires the replacement of rudders with rudder posts made from 1025 carbon steel on the affected aircraft with rudders that have posts made from 4130 low-alloy steel. The rule also allows alternative methods of compliance, or AMOCs which, with FAA approval, could ease the anticipated strain on the supply of replacement rudders.

The FAA is issuing this AD to address fatigue loading and corrosion of rudder posts made from 1025 carbon steel which, if not addressed, could result in a broken rudder and consequent reduced ability of the flight crew to maintain the safe flight and landing of the airplane.

I have not seen hail although I wasn’t there late in the evening when it may have stormed. I did not notice any damage on your plane but I was not specifically inspecting for it

The storm hit right after dark at my house. I'm 1 mile from runway 24. If there was hail it wasn't much. Rain and wind mostly. I'll swing by and see if you plane looks like a golf ball.

Re: fly in

FYI,
?Our neighbor eaa chapter are involved in this, giving young eagle flights among other things. This is as close to an area fly-in as it will ever get around here. It s nice to see a different generation come as we age out. Many changes on the horizon. I'd do it all over again, along with making better bad choices.
