Greetings.? Sorry if this question seems very basic to most, but I'm kind of lost here.

Running a Yaesu FT710, Windows 11.? All work fine thus far on my different software.? I do a lot with VARA (free version).? I tried to set up UZ7HO Soundmodem and I don't have something right on the settings I'm afraid as I only get a very short transmission.? So, since I have very good luck with Direwolf on UHF/VHF figured I'd give it a try on my HF side.? But, my issue is that it has been so long since I set it up on my other computer I really don't recall all the steps to make things work.? I am comparing settings on my UHF/VHF Direwolf file and working on the HF version, but I am now to the point of PTT and the Direwolf Radio Interface .pdf guide says use Hamlib.? Downloaded that (I think), and I now have come to the conclusion that I'm lost.? No idea where to go from here.

Helpful hints anyone???

What is your soundcard interface?? Also, you mentioned a short transmission.? Depending on how short, that may be normal.? Sending a connect-request with the default 1200-baud would be pretty short normally.

3 seconds maybe when sending a beacon on aprs.? When using VARS it's more likely to be 8-10 seconds.? And no interface, direct from the computer USB port with the virtual comm ports.? (That's how I use VARS, Winlink, FT8, etc.)

That sounds normal for 1200-baud or even 300-baud transmission time, for an APRS beacon.? VARA is a lot longer by comparison (I have VARA APRS running here also). What method of PTT are you using with Soundmodem, maybe RTL or DTR on whichever comport?? Is sounds like Soundmodem is working like it should, but curious what it uses for PTT for your Yaesu.? If you do use Direwolf, I imagine you wouldn't need Hamlib, just the same RTL/DTR config as Soundmodem.

When I hit send, it indeed does put rig into transmit with Soundmodem.? PTT port is COM6 in Soundmodem.? Would I use that in Direwolf?? I tried Direwolf with aprs and when I monitor it sounds good,, just not throwing rig into transmit.? So, in my feeble mind, I feel I'm close....

OK, once again I think I am very close.? Making noise, putting rig into transmit, but nothing going out.? Have to configure speakers/mic.? I'll get it yet!

Yeah, COM6.? Somewhere in the Soundmodem PTT config it should also show what pin it's using on the comport, whether RTS, DTR, or both.? Here's Direwolf's PTT section, just adjust one of the lines accordingly and delete the # to enable it, or add a new line.? If the radio immediately goes into transmit when you start Direwolf, stop Direwolf and change the PTT line to what works.? I had one setup where that happened, so I had to use some variation of inverted RTS or DTR or something, but it worked.

Once again, I am getting close!? When I press F1 it throws rig into Xmit, tho audio comes out of my computer speakers.? Here is what I am showing on startup.? I just have to figure out how to adjust Direwolf to only use the USB choices.? Thank you for your help!
