Hello John,

Per the comments in , please send the FULL output of Direwolf from it's very initial startup until the initial connection is made to the remote BBS.

Re: EAS SAME to APRS Message Converter

Okay, so I think I'm maybe figuring this out.... Presuming Kissutil has to be running as a service so that it is checking the /dev/shm/TQ and /dev/shm/RQ directories... and I can start kissutil and specify that it should connect to a specific host....?

So... I've got direwolf with my SDR and eas2aprs running on 192.168.1.2
and I've got my digipeater running on 192.168.1.10

So if on 192.168.1.2 I run kissutil with -h 192.168.1.10 -p 8001 if I'm understanding correctly, then kissutil should see the eas2aprs messages in the /dev/shm/TQ directory, and send them to direwolf on 192.168.1.10.... correct?
My only problem now is..... I don't see it actually successfully connecting to direwolf on 192.168.1.10 (I do have the KISSPORT 8001 parameter in the config)

Re: EAS SAME to APRS Message Converter

so, I've got this basically setup.... But I'm running into a couple issues due to some unique things about my setup.
Ideally, I'd like to run my RTL-SDR on a different machine from the one on which I run Direwolf... primarily because my APRS digipeater is fully solar/battery powered, so power consumption is a concern... second reason, by RTL-SDR doesn't have a TXCO, so running it outside in the weatherproof enclosure won't lend itself well due to the temperature variations...?
Do you know if Direwolf can get the signal via rtl_tcp instead of rtl_fm.... if I setup an rtl_tcp server inside the house where the climate is a bit more stable...

My other thought was simply setting up the /dev/shm/TQ and /dev/shm/RQ directories to point to a network share... and run another instance of direwolf on the indoor pc for the sole purpose of receiving and processing the EAS/SAME signal, and basicaly both instances, the indoor, and the outdoor, would use the same network share for the RQ and TQ directories.

Unfortunately, neither method has been successful... any suggestions?? ?Can I tell Direwolf to look to a specific directory for the /TQ and /RQ directories, or does it just default to /dev/shm/TQ and /dev/shm/RQ and not changeable???

Direwolf with DINAH and Yaesu 300 for BBS.

Hi,

I would like to configure direwolf with DINAH for access to a BBS station.
I'm running it all on linux. I can see that my os sees the dinah as an audio device.
At this point I would like to have a simple test to just make sure that my custom soldered DINAH can make my radio transmit anything.
Eventually I would like to be able to access a local bbs. Can someone give an overview of what software it involves(on linux) and how to troubleshoot each step.
I read a lot about AGW and ax.25, and other terms, but I can't understand what each of does in the whole ecosystem.

Thanks in advance.

Here’s yet another, which I use for packet Winlink: ? ??

Basically, a USB audio adapter that includes a PTT signal. ?Configure Direwolf PPT for CM108. ? Plug-and-play if you have a 6 pin mini-DIN ?“data” jack at the radio.

1.7 Beta version for Windoz with CM119 support?

Is there a Direwolf Beta version 1.7 for Windows available that has support for the CM119 PTT?
I know it's Beta, and I know I could probably figure out how to compile it, but I thought I'd ask.
(If it's available, at least I wouldn't be creating additional problems by compiling wrong.)

Re: add weather station to Direwolf?

I added it to the home directory, but for some reason it doesnt like my path to it, I have now put it in the direwolf directory, its not complaining anymore, but not 100% its transmitting it, I'll have to check when I have some spare time ( kids asleep! ) to see if its picking it up and Txing it

thanks

Re: Easy Digi Universal, sanity check

This is the other one I was thinking of. Excellent choice.

I put the file in my home folder, then used the example in the Beacon section of the user guide to transmit it.

Yeah, that was my mistake, I see that now.

> It's not 100% clear which "Easy Digi" device you want to use (maybe it's this one:??) but most EasyDigi devices do NOT include a soundcard.

Yep, I misread that as well.? It provides cables, and apparently connects to my existing (USB) soundcard.? Which is okay, I guess.

> Please note that with the EasyDigi unit, it's isolation transformers will ONLY allow for 1200bps packet.? This is fine for common 2m packet but if you want to use 9600bps FSK support, you'll need to bypass the transformers as they limit the audio bandwidth in/out the radio too much.

I'll only be doing 2m packet to my club's BBS, but I suppose I should figure out if I'm ever going to want 9600bps for anything else, then.

Re: add weather station to Direwolf?

Hi David,?

I did see that bit, but it didn't click as to that's what I'd be looking for, thanks
I just need to work out how to get that out of the weather station..

thanks again thats pointed me in the direction I needed

cheers

Hello Cliff,

In the Direwolf User Guide page 119, it talks about the wxnow.txt file and how Direwolf imports it's data and beacons out it's data.? Search the DIrewolf forum with the string "wxnow.txt" and you'll get a lot of hits with various script solutions to possibly help get the data from your WX station and into the right format for Direwolf to ingest it.

Re: Easy Digi Universal, sanity check

Hello Dave,

I'm looking to get a Yaesu FT-8900r hooked up for 2m packet, and looking for a sanity check on my thoughts.? My current plan is to get an Easy Digi Universal, which if I read it right, contains the sound card, and will hook up directly to the 9-pin mini-DIN on my radio

It's not 100% clear which "Easy Digi" device you want to use (maybe it's this one: ) but most EasyDigi devices do NOT include a soundcard.? Please note that with the EasyDigi unit, it's isolation transformers will ONLY allow for 1200bps packet.? This is fine for common 2m packet but if you want to use 9600bps FSK support, you'll need to bypass the transformers as they limit the audio bandwidth in/out the radio too much.

Then Direwolf can be configured to talk via USB to the Easy Digi, can be setup to control PTT, and will send/rcv using the Easy Digi's sound card.? Computer-wise, I would either be using a Win10 laptop or a RasPi 3B+ running Raspbian; I'd like to be able to switch between the two, as I see fit.

Yes, it's possible to move the setup between both computer types assuming you use an external USB based soundcard.? Per the Direwolf documentation, the Syba SD-CM-UAUD is a recommended unit.? Btw, while optional, I would also recommend to place VHF rated ferrite chokes on each *end* of each cable (audio and USB) if possible to avoid any RFI issues.

I do have a question into Clifford at Easy Digi, as his main listing appears to be for the 6-pin DIN, and I might need a different model.? Any feedback on that?? Anybody needed to go that route?

Your FT8900 uses a common 6pin connection on the rear of the radio, not 9pin.

Re: Easy Digi Universal, sanity check

David, audio isolation is no longer needed with modern DC powered radios.

I use a C-Media devices that I bought for under $4 and a bread boarded transistor circuit to key the transmitter.

Recently there was discussions about the many C-Media versions that had built in 6 pin Din connectors and PTT.

I use Raspberry Pi 2Bs, and the latest Raspbian OS.

Re: Easy Digi Universal, sanity check

I suggest using one of the interfaces based on the C-Media sound chips. There is only one cable to connect to your computer, PTT is handled by a GPIO pin on the sound chip and your system sounds will play through the PC speakers, and not be transmitted. This page has a list of compatible devices and instructions to build your own:?
