Re: PTT RTS not working (Windows 10 64 bit, Direwolf 1.7), Digirig Mobile

I also have an IC-207 that simply refuses to transmit. I'm almost to the point where I'm going to take the radio apart and see if I can find a problem inside but my gut tells me I won't find anything. I've tried various audio levels, no PTT no matter what I do. I have PTT set to -RTS.?

this is not related to Digirig at all. It must be some safety design inside IC-207. What I still don't know is how exactly to determine the correct drive level. I would be grateful if there was some kind of digipeater nearby that would report what is my actual modulation deviation :)
However, I think there is a method to calculate deviation by modulating a single tone and finding nulls, either at carrier frequency or some significant sideband frequency. The nulls in FM spectrum move depending on both the modulation frequency and deviation.
But I have to search, I read the article long time ago...

Re: Direwolf in Windows, TM-V71A, can't PTT using PTT COM6 RTS

Hello Dave,

I'm running Direwolf in Windows 11.
Using a Digirig Mobile, connecting both of the two (black and green) Digirig cables for my Kenwood TM-V71A.

Ok.? Before we get into it, can you tell us what you're wanting to do with Direwolf+Digirig?? 1200bps APRS or classic packet?? Maybe you're looking to do 9600bps classic packet??
Also, which cable set did you order from DIgirig?? I ask because they sell TWO different kits where one of them is for 9600 support which most people will NOT want.

I edited the direwolf config file to add the line "PTT COM6 RTS"

If the Digirig's USB side is connected to the Windows 11 machine and you then go into WIndow's Device Manager and look under "Ports (COM & LPT)", which port is the Digirig showing up?? Not sure?? Unplug the Digirig from the USB port and then re-connect it.? It should become obvious.

Direwolf reports "Note: PTT not configured for channel 0, (Ignore this if using VOX.)

This most likely means you added the PTT line in the wrong place.? Please send us your direwolf.conf file and we can look to see if anything stands out.

Tried the TM-V71A in EchoLink Sysop mode and not in that mode. No difference.
I don't see the power scale light up in the radios display indicating transmission.

You don't want echolink mode.?

I soldered the 3 pad pairs inside the Digirig to enable RS-232.
Tested everything with a multimeter.

This starts to get a little complicated and the details matter:

?? - What PCB version of the Digirig do you have?? You really need version 1.6 or newer
?? - Which specific contacts did you solder together?

I wish the solder pads were numbered so that things are very clear but they are.

I do notice the Digirig case runs warm.
Is that because RS-232 uses 12v while?logic levels uses 3.3v?

Hmmm.. "warm" is a very relative term but I don't know why it would run warm at all as these devices aren't doing all that much.

Re: Direwolf in Windows, TM-V71A, can't PTT using PTT COM6 RTS

The DigiRig Mobile is a "sound card" device to be used Direwolf as a TNC.? I assume you V71A doesn't have the D-710 TNC head.
The DigiRig RS-232 input is fro CAT control (frequency setting, etc.) of a radio.
The TM-V71A does not have CAT control.
?? Audio + PTT are always available independently from serial CAT
? ?and they work for minimum required digital modes?configuration with any radio
?
The DigiRig to V71A should be done with a TRRS to 6-pin miniDIN from the audio (black) connector.
?? This connection includes a PTT circuit using whatever Serial Port is configured, but not through the Green (serial) connector.
?? The Green (serial) connector is not used.
?
Although this appears to use the 9600 baud receive pin, it is advertised for use with this type of radio:
? ?
? ?When using with Digirig Mobile plug 3.5mm TRRS jack into black socket labeled “audio”.

Re: Suppress VOX Warning

is crazy the lot of red warning lines of the creator include........ try use a false ptt output. I really use a vox circuit homemade with quality in timing. Vox not is a bad idea in hands clever. Not all ham are idiots. Anyway, you can delete this ads before compling.

Re: Multiple frames in an only transmision.

Ok thanks. But transmit in an only frame is more fastly (i try diferents tnc?s, or the soundmodem for windows and works in this mode), without the delay and tail between single frames received casualy sequently.

Re: Direwolf Decode Help

Hi all,
?
I've reviewed this thread and I think the problem is quite simmilar to mine. I exposed it in this thread: /g/direwolf/topic/direwolf_cannot_decodify_aprs/111362052
?
In summary I can dedode APRS frames from Direwolf to AnyTone but not viceversa. I can see other APRS frames from another devices in Direwolf but not from my AnyTone. I'm in the last firmwares 3.06 and for BT+APRS board.
?
Any clue to resolve my issue?
?
Thanks.

Re: Using mobile APRS device as both digipeater and iGate

This seems like a good solution for something I am doing.? I want a beacon from this Pi/Direwolf to go to both RF and into the direwolf Log.? I'm using Direwolf 1.8D.
I tried
PBEACON SENDTO=0,IG
and that does send to both port 0 (RF) and to the IGate.
I tried
PBEACON SENDTO=0,R0
and that is only sent to whatever the first parameter is, channel 0 in this case.
When I do
PBEACON SENDTO=R0
it does go into the Direwolf Log.
I tried using R1, but that didn't work I suppose because channel 1 isn't set up.
Or did I do something wrong trying to SENDTO=0,R0? ??
?
I can do it with two PBEACONs, but sendto two places appeared to be a good solution.

As you have learned, you don't have to.
I have used "sendto" with 2 arguments ((sendto=0,1) for left and right audio (ACHANNELS 2) as well.?
I've never tried 3 (sendto=0,1,IG).

Okk it looks like:

sendto=0,IG

does the job.

Hello Don,

I can see how you would say it's not documented as Section 9.11.4 (TBEACON) doesn't have a table like how Sections 9.11.1 (PBEACON and OBEACON) and 9.11.2 (Custom beacons).? If you feel this is an important omission, please create a Github "issue" at so it's not forgotten.

If your Direwolf setup has a GPS and you have configured a TBEACON (not a PBEACON) have you found it's NOT sending the position packets to your IGATE??? Can you show us what you configured for your TBEACON line from the direwolf.conf file as well as the terminal output when you start Direwolf?

Please note: PBEACONS are intended for static locations.. moving locations use TBEACONs (see the Direwolf User Guide Section 9.11.4 for full details)
