Re: Does direwolf support KISS over BLE or is it in the works?
Sorry. I am not familiar with the aprs.fi app. Have you made any kind of BLE connection between your Raspberry Pi 4 and an iOS device? I found this on a quick search: It appears you need to determine what services are available on each device. Good luck! Robert Giuliano KB8RCO

Re: Does direwolf support KISS over BLE or is it in the works?
The connection to aprs.fi doesn't exist.? You connect to the APRS-IS system, and aprs-fi is just a web based client that shows data that was sent to APRS-IS. If you are trying to run an APRS client on iOS and connect to a Bluetooth-KISS-TNC, it should be no different that with an Android device - other than the device running direwolf must use a device that is BLE complient to work. What application are you trying to run on iOS? What are you running Direwolf on? Robert Giuliano

Re: Does direwolf support KISS over BLE or is it in the works?
I know that Direwolf can be configured to send data to a serial KISS TNC. The manual (V1.6 page 12) says:?? "KISS Interface (TCP/IP, serial port, Bluetooth)." It references another manual called "Bluetooth-KISS-TNC.pdf" I have not tried it though. Robert Giuliano

ADEVICE0 Setup for iMic and Mac
Anyone that's been around for a while remembers the iMic, basically a USB audio interface or if you wish USB sound card. I have direwolf running on my M1 MacBook Air with a SignaLink USB but would like to try using the iMic instead.
I've connected the iMic input to the speaker output of my radio, and in my direwolf config file I set ADEVICE0 \u201ciMic USB audio system:1,0?\u201d, which worked when I connected it to a Raspberry Pi.? So the question is how do I define ADEVICE in the config file to us the Apple iMic on my laptop? |
Re: Direwolf web dashboard
Very nice!
You could use the internal Direwolf script capability to alter/add a comment and send the "opening announcement" over the air. Even better would be to use the script to determine if the opening is somewhat directional (example NE, N, and NW are open to > 100 miles). I believe the Direwolf-APRS-Toolkit.? I believe the format would be something like: CBEACON delay=0:15 every=0:10 via=WIDE2-1 commendcmd=" `PYTHONPATH=~/{pathtoscript}/{script}.py`" NOTE:? Since Direwolf is already handling the timing (delay and every), you won't need the CRON job anymore.? The same script would create and send the email (if you choose) and post a comment on the air to inform others of the opening. I know of one station locally that did this for some time.? I don't know if they did it through Direwolf, some other client, or manually. I also don't know if they are still doing it.? I haven't seen a "band opening" message in quite some time. ------- Rob KB8RCO |
Re: Direwolf web dashboard
Variation on a theme, I decided my first foray into trying to write a script should be Direwolf related - apart from some C++ at university and Excel macros I've not coded anything.
I installed Alfredo's dashboard, which has proved to be very useful in showing the difference between what DW is RX and what gets through to aprs.fi.? Big thanks Alfredo for that.? It rather gave me inspiration to look at scripting. When prop is good and e's are active, I see a lot of stations plus 100 miles. The intention in writing the script was to use the Direwolf log to alert to the possibility of DX on 2 metres rather than having to look at the dashboard. I set the script to run every 5 minutes in a CRON job.? It reads the DW log into an array, calculates the distance to the source station and appends that to each row.? Then filters by distance (set-able in the script).? If the filter result is zero, quits, otherwise puts the output into an email and sends.? There is a small sub-routine to check when the last email was sent to prevent sending every 5 minutes (also set-able in the script) .? I set that to only send every 30 minutes. It's not the most elegant of Python scripts, but it works for what I want it to do. Code is here There are two scripts in the repository - dxrx is the one to check and send mail according to distance.? ?Fulllog gets the log file, calculates and appends distance to source and sends email - I use that one once a day just for info. 73 Craig MM0NBW |
Re: Raspberry Pi Zero2w Direwolf not Digipeating
David,
I've reviewed the user guide regarding digipeating. I see where my digipeater may not repeat packets as a stronger digipeater may win out. However, I have my HT set at low power and when it beacons the beacon is not being shown in the Direwolf monitor screen. I changed the digipeater settings in Direwolf as you suggested. I've also started Direwolf with debugging. I looked through the documentation and the Github site for a buide on how to decpher the debugging code. Here is a screen dump of my Digipeater from moments ago: login as: pi

Thanks to all. I have managed to get it working by buying a different USB sound card from Amazon. The new one identifies as 'USB Audio Device' for receive and transmit, rather than separately named devices for each direction.?

Re: Raspberry Pi Zero2w Direwolf not Digipeating
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Fred, I just built a standalone digipeater running Direwolf. The digipeater is beaconing just fine as I'm able to verify the beacons on aprs.fi. However, it is not digipeating. How are you judging that it's not digipeating?? Because you don't see the Direwolf setup transmit or because you don't see your digipeater being the relay station according to aprs.fi??? If it's the later, you cannot go by what aprs.fi says as other Igates might be getting the packet into APRS-IS quicker and your digipeater's packet is discarded as duplicate.? You can read more about this in the Direwolf User Guide section 9.5.4. I have tested this by putting my FT3D beaconing on low power here around the house and walking in my neighborhood. I see you're using N7PN-7 though only with a path of WIDE2-1.? Raspberry Pi Zero2w Direwolf not Digipeating
Hello Everyone,
I just built a standalone digipeater running Direwolf. The digipeater is beaconing just fine as I'm able to verify the beacons on aprs.fi. However, it is not digipeating. I have tested this by putting my FT3D beaconing on low power here around the house and walking in my neighborhood. I know the FT3D is beaconing when I raise the power and other digipeaters pick up the signal. I am new to APRS, Direwolf and Linux. But after spending hours trying to figure this out by reading different posts here, I thought it time to reach out here for answers. Here is how I have digipeating configured: # the "#" from the beginning of the line below.
#
?
DIGIPEAT 0 0 ^WIDE[3-7]-[1-7]$|^TEST$ ^WIDE[12]-[12]$ TRACE
?
# See User Guide for more explanation of what this means and how
# it can be customized for your particular needs.
?
# Filtering can be used to limit was is digipeated.
# For example, only weather weather reports, received on channel 0,
# will be retransmitted on channel 1.
#
?
#FILTER 0 1 t/wn
?
# Traditional connected mode packet radio uses a different
# type of digipeating.? See User Guide for details.

Re: TH-D710 and DIREWOLF
Oh! That's different. You would have to send an Object message (not a self position beacon) that is precisely formatted to be compatible with the Kenwood's built-in TNC.
;rptrname-*111111zddmm.mmN/dddmm.ddWr146.990MHz T100 - my repeater description where the ddmm.mm is latitude, dddmm.mm is longitude, the rptrname- is an exactly 9-character string identifying your repeater, the 146.990 is the frequency in megahertz, the T100 is the CTCSS tone (without the fractional Hertz and with a leading zero if only two digits, i.e. T067), and the - is the repeater shift direction (+ for positive shift), and "my repeater description" is a short human-readable string. Now, how you put that in the direwolf.conf file is a separate issue. You need the Kenwood PG-5H cable to the transceiver body to send the tuning commands. The repeaterfinder plugin also can tune Icom radios using CI-V command protocol. Andrew, KA2DDO author of YAAC |
