Hello John,

Which HT are you using?? Though HTs will work, their TX keyup times can be pretty slow (250ms+).? Settings in the direwolf.conf file for TXDELAY (time Direwolf waits after the PTT signal has been given before it starts playing the AFSK packet sounds) and TXTAIL (the delay after the AFSK sounds are complete before it PTT signal is removed).

Hello Alex,

So it sounds like you want to display various stats from the APRS world onto an LCD display.? That shouldn't be too hard to do.

?? - First, you need to get a display.? The HamHud seems to use a 16 character x 4 lines display but there are LOTS of alternatives:

? ? ? - 16x2 LCDs: might be too small -
???? - 20x4 -
???? - There are lots of full color LCDs out there too (3.5", 4.0", etc) but maybe they won't be readable enough for your installation

For example, here is a 20x4 project that's well documented:

Once you have the display working, I imagine parsing the STDOUT output from Direwolf won't be too difficult

My RPi and RTL dongle iGate is really working well. It has taken a bit of sorting out after I tracked down a problem with a knackered SD card but it is perfect now.

One next step for me is to get some kind of output to a screen. I don't want to just output the console as it is but would like the data to be cleaned up and displayed nicely on an LCD. I have no experience with this kind of thing so any pointers would be appreciated. I've heard of something called and that kind of output is what I'm after. If that gives you a clue.

Well, I have no idea how you would display maps in a textual view.? Going the GUI route:

?? - N7NIX DanTracker : medium weight messaging client via a web browser (local or remote) but currently doesn't have maps
?? - YAAC : medium weight Java program that can run locally
?? - Xastir : heavy weight client that can run locally via Xwindows - feature packed

As a builder of products that interface to the Pi 2 and Pi 3 (and one that will go with the original Pi line), I have tried several boards that claim Pi 2 GPIO compatibility and they invariably fail.? The Pi 3 is pretty capable.?

Another thing to consider is whether amateur radio related packages are being actively ported and maintained for a given OS and hardware.? Many applications are dependent on the availability of hardware that may need OS support.

If you are a developer and comfortable modifying open source projects to your favorite hardware flavor of the day, this is a hobby for experimenters, so have at it and share your results with the rest of the community.

I don't see why it wouldn't work assuming this is a quality board.? Few thoughts:

?? - The PINE64 specs look impressive but there is more to a board than performance.? It's the support and the community behind the board that counts too.? The Raspberry Pi community is amazing and it's constantly updated and maintained.? You cannot say the same about some of the other "higher performance" SBC products out there that have been quickly deprecated in favor of their newer board (to only get deprecated).? This is the new IoT model and in my opinion, it's an emerging disaster.? Hopefully the Piine64 people won't be like this but only time will tell.

?? - Since this board looks to be able to run various Linux distributions, you should be able to compile Direwolf without too much work.? Those steps are fully documented in the Direwolf User Guide

?? - One risk here can be the compatibility of the soundcard on this SBC with Direwolf.? Direwolf is known to have some limitations with some soundcards on the Raspberry Pi so I would assume the same risks apply here.? This is easy fix though with adding an external $7 USB sound device

Everyone with a TX-capable IGate running DireWolf should use this filter:

FILTER IG 0 t/m | ( ! d/TCPIP/TCPXX )

for each audio channel until, this gets sorted out.

The third-party packets with TCPIP and the q-construct in the PATH should not be transmitted on RF.

Note that it appears that digipeating packets are mergers of more than one packet. I suspect some buffer in DireWolf 1.3 is not cleared before a new packet arrives. The result is that the transmission includes pieces of more than one incoming packet.?

Any ideas where to look in the code??
