Hello John,

Curious, what device are you using?? Even with Echolink, a keydown delay of 1.5sec is really way to slow.

The device was designed specifically for Echolink. This lack of an
adjustable T/R delay was intentional. They sell another device that is
identical, except the T/R delay is adjustable. Of course, I read this
later.

My Rigblaster should have no issue with DW. I need to get all set up
again. My move to Windows 10 and other stuff has me rebuilding. I was
mostly just tinkering with that HT adapter on applications other than
Echolink, that it was designed for.

I apologize - it was meant as a dry bit of humor, perhaps it was a bit too dry.
A bit like the time I drily asked someone on Usenet if they were measuring metric
or Imperial Watts.

I would agree.... 1500ms is terrible and I can't think of a reason why
someone would design in such a huge delay into their product!

Thanks.. I'll give that a shot and see.... my adapter, though, looks
like it has a TX to RX delay that's set to 1.5 seconds. The RX to TX
time is good.

I *can* also use my Rigblaster Nomic with my IC-2200H, (which I actually
do all the rest of the time) so there is a definite way for me to be on
packet. I'm just playing with HTs.

Hello John,

Which HT are you using? Though HTs will work, their TX keyup times can
be pretty slow (250ms+). Settings in the direwolf.conf file for TXDELAY
(time Direwolf waits after the PTT signal has been given before it
starts playing the AFSK packet sounds) and TXTAIL (the delay after the
AFSK sounds are complete before it PTT signal is removed).

I'm using DW with a USB Echolink adapter on an HT. Essemtially it is a
USB soundcard and keying circuit on a dongle.

Yes, it works... BUT

The radio stays keyed longer than I'd like. I could miss packet
responses. I wish to use it with both APRS and connected packet.

Are there settings to change the transmit to receive delay?

Thus far, I have found none.

Re: RPi iGate next step.

David certainly knows the ins and outs of Dire Wolf better than I,
and he recently recommended something to another operator that I wasn't aware of - which is pretty slick.?

A video is worth a bunch of words. . I don't have one set up.

Hello Alex,

So it sounds like you want to display various stats from the APRS world onto an LCD display.? That shouldn't be too hard to do.

?? - First, you need to get a display.? The HamHud seems to use a 16 character x 4 lines display but there are LOTS of alternatives:

? ? ? - 16x2 LCDs: might be too small -
???? - 20x4 -
???? - There are lots of full color LCDs out there too (3.5", 4.0", etc) but maybe they won't be readable enough for your installation

For example, here is a 20x4 project that's well documented:

??

Once you have the display working, I imagine parsing the STDOUT output from Direwolf won't be too difficult

My RPi and RTL dongle iGate is really working well. It has taken a bit of sorting out after I tracked down a problem with a knackered SD card but it is perfect now.

One next step for me is to get some kind of output to a screen. I don't want to just output the console as it is but would like the data to be cleaned up and displayed nicely on an LCD. I have no experience with this kind of thing so any pointers would be appreciated. I've heard of something called and that kind of output is what I'm after. If that gives you a clue.

After that it'll be weather data, but that will be another day

Thanks

Nope. APRS, though.

Just Lynn's (KJ4ERJ) . recently under development.
