Re: Local filter to suppress bulletin packets?

My HT radio message list fills with BLN* messages from all over the world, it hits the packet limiter on direwolf, suppressing legit traffic.

I wrote the owners of DALLAS and T2QUEBEC, no answer.? now blacklisted.??

The emphasis of my digi is message-type packets, so I can't just ban all messages.?

So far the local "group" filter is banning messages to callsigns BLN*.

fingers crossed,

T2QUEBEC is a Java version server, and I have had problems with getting excessive stuff from Java APRS servers when I use filters.? Maybe your issue is related to what I've seen.

Hello Craig,

Do you have any examples of one of these APRS-IS flooding events?? Are you sure they are all bulletin type messages?? To me, the better solution would be to work with the APRS-IS folks to fix their systems vs. block all bulletins from APRS-IS as it's a pretty powerful messaging service though it's rather underutilized.

Every now and then an APRSIS server sends thousands of bulletins to my igate, jamming the channel until I reconnect (observed on DALLAS and T2QUEBEC)

Is there a proper way to locally filter messages addressed to BLN#?

example,

[ig>tx] KM6LYW>WIDE1-1,TCPIP*,qAC,T2USANW:: BLN5???? :testing GTOWN filter please ignore me
[0L] GTOWN>APDW16,WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1:}KM6LYW>WIDE1-1,TCPIP,GTOWN*::BLN5???? :testing GTOWN filter please ignore me

curiously,
