+1 for the comment about audio bandwidth.
To me, the signal sounded "funny" when played in Audacity, and
John's comment about audio bandwidth - I'd call it audio
"strangling" - took me back to the sound of a SSB filter that's
marginally too narrow for the (voice) frequencies involved.
