Article - The Home Shop Machinist #MISC #MILLS

Edited

Hello, All,

Just an FYI for those who might be interested... John Lindo and I have, over the years, co-written several articles for Village Press, the publishers of The Home Shop Machinist, Digital Machinist, and several other magazines. An article we wrote on a Tooling Plate for mini-mills will appear in the Sept/Oct 2020 issue of The Home Shop Machinist. The cover and first page of the article are shown below, in case you wish to look for it on the newsstand!

I hope everyone is well and is staying safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues on.

Jon,

Thanks! Sounds like a good idea. I will put together a list of the articles themselves. I think many of us have contributed to the Chips & Sparks or Hints & Tips emails, so I am not including those.

Charles and John, thats wonderful and I would like to get hold of the articles if they were available. Both mags are favorites of mine but difficult to get here in Brisbane unless I have them airmailed with the attached costs ! I do subscribe to The model engineers workshop which is a UK mag and receive that digitally. I wonder if that option is available now for the American mags ?

Regards?

Bob

Bob,

I have emailed the publisher and asked if there is a digital subscription option. I will let you know how they respond.

Animal,

My local Barnes and Noble used to carry it, but I don't know if they still do. Maybe a subscription is in your future? I think the newsstand price is rather high.

I would offer that declining quantities of issues being sold in brick & mortar stores like B&N, as a reason for discontinuation.....Shelf space is very competitive.....
.
Good Luck on your search!

We have been avoiding the mall, but if I can get there this weekend I will check to see if the Magazines are on the shelf.

I just did a trial issue from the publisher for the print versions... I think it is about time to try a subscription.

If I have to choose 1, which would you all recommend?

Thanks - Tamra

??? ??? I noticed after I did the trial issue they sent me a few emails asking me to subscribe , but it was for 5 issues at the full price , not the 6 ya get when ya subscribe normally

I get HSM, Machinist's Workshop, and Digital Machinist. Each one has a slightly different focus, and it's worth getting all three. I'm not doing much in the digital arena, myself, but it's interesting to see what others are doing. HSM & MW have a bit of everything, so if you're a bit short of cash, you might just want them, but Tamra does have interest in the CNC area, and there are some good articles in DM, too.?

Bill in OKC, thanks for the links... neither of the Michigan clubs seem up to date on meetings; once ceased posting in 2019; and once ceased postings in 2017.? The closest one is 1.5 hours each way to their meeting.

I did like the CNC group in Ann Arbor; there was a comment about "the holy war issues like Servos vs. Steppers, NURBS vs. Meshes, and EMC2 vs. Mach3"

This sounds like my kind of group for the present moment.? I am finishing my 12th miniature QA chair, 10 are being sent off to my friends...and then I will return to my CNC lathe conversion.
