Receiver VR-4R150-00 How to program?

Some time ago, along with other items, I purchase several of these from a local amateur's widow. A search here, found nothing related to VR-4R, anything.
Is there any programming software, out there? Or do I have some sort of, expensive doorstops?? Any info appreciated!
Thanks,? Richard A.

I'm not sure about the -R but the VR4-E150 programs using an older windows XP program or that vintage.? ?I have an old laptop somewhere that I used with an E version. As I recall the RJ-45 cable was a bit unusual.? They aren't doorstops, if you wanted to run P25 the R version should do it. If I can dig out the old PC it should have something in it.? ?W6MTF

Richard,

First, I would check with the person you bought them from to see whether the late ham also had the programming interface that goes between a PC and the radio. He may have had one and the widow might not have noticed it or understood what it's for.

The Daniels Radio Programming Interface Module (RPIM) connects to the RJ-45 jack (either one) on the front of the radio using a special cable. On the 4R and 4D receivers and transmitters, the outer pins of the RJ-45 jacks are used for programming. (This also means that if you connect RX and TX modules together for repeater use via the RJ-45 jacks normal Ethernet cables won't work correctly. Daniels used special 6 conductor cables that do not connect to the outer pins.)

There is a special RSS that was designed to run on Win98, NT, and XP. I believe that were different versions for the 4D and 4R units.

Some manuals can be found at:

If you can't locate the RPIM -- I have no idea whether Codan still has any for sale -- you might ask here as there may be someone near you who can assist with programming.

These are definitely useful once you get them programmed and align the pre-selector using a spectrum analyzer with tracking generator or an alternate method.

Hi Daniel,

I could use 1, if you want to let go of one.
