Re: Windows 11
Spoke too soon. Took a bit for things to go sideways, such as:

- LTE modem still sees the network, but no longer connects to its default AP, because the APN (access point name) got changed. Easy to fix, but.... - some apps no longer start because they can't find some DLL, and... - the Microsoft-provided option (in Settings->Recovery) to reinstall Windows 10 from scratch hangs indefinitely while eating 15-20% CPU. To add insult to injury, Windows 10's update service *INSISTS* of downloading 11 *AGAIN*, completely ignoring the fact that this POS just got backed out. Disabling that is not a good idea, because it would also keep bug fixes away. It's quite ironic that the patch procedure wants to install the biggest bug of all. Fortunately there's a manufacture-provided reset-to-factory-default tool. Takes some time, while conjuring up some distinct the-80s-are-back feeling (basic almost xterm-style terminal window showing progress in text form), but eventually we are back where we started. Just like politics, where one burns time and money to get to where we already are. On a positive note, it offers a chance to check and debug one's backup and restore procedures. Something not RPI, for a change, but still:
My on-the-road laptop blocked logins until agreeing to upgrade to Windows 11. Big disappointment right there, not one bit unexpected. Backed it out within 15 minutes after it started up. There are only two good aspects about all this mess: - the upgrade backs out just fine, in realistic time, and - all my Windows 10 stuff appears to be unharmed. This could have ended way worse. Might want to get backups ready before 11 hits you, in case stuff goes sideways. I full realize that this is a Unix/Linux/*BSD-oriented group, but many of us have to use Windows here and there, so better beware. |

Re: Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W - Micro Center
As far as RPI 0 goes, that's been the case for the longest time, at least at Microcenter. Other places, such as Adafruit, have a limit of 1 per order.

Gotta wonder how long until they'll be available here. Sounds like a shock-and-awe raid at Microcenter waiting to happen. Yay, retail therapy! :) :) :) Rusty Haddock wrote: Here are some more videos: |
