Finally, I learned and applied a simple fix for those of us who need a Brother linux driver for the printer:
sudo apt-get install printer-driver-brlaser
I didn't have to do anything and the package updates the .PPD files.? I ran a test page using the text editor, and successfully printed a page from the Internet!? Many thanks to Cornelius for his encouragement and support!!!
