Victor Reader Stream 3
10
Hello Everyone I have just got a Victor Reader Stream 3 and really like it. Of course, there are a few things that are not as good as the VR2 and I wonder if anyone knows of any plans to fix them: 1. When pressing the WhereAmI buttn, the VR2 used to give a percentage of the book being read. This no longer happens. 2. The VR3 does not display the time properly. For example, for 11:30 AM it says 11 Hours 30 Minutes Ahem. Are there any plans to correct this? If anyone is interested, the VR3 will play the BBC Event Streams used for broadcasting sport. cases for vr stream 3
Hi I had an email from humanware uk, I asked them to notify me but they now sell a case for the vr stream 3, has anyone purchased one and if so, what are they like? I will be getting one and as they aren’t as expensive as the executive products from the states, they are ?50 each. I am not sure if they are only available over here so won’t post this on the other lists. Regards Adrien Virus-free.www.avg.com

Quick survey for 1.5 and beyond!
17
Hi everyone! I wanted to quickly poll all of you here to know what you'd like to see in future updates on the Stream 3. We already have some things in the works, of course, but I like to keep my finger on the pulse of what you all would like to see to better inform our roadmap. It can be something as big as a new service (like TuneIn, for example), or a small as an improvement to a feature (having the ability to use categories in notes, for example, although this last one is already being worked on!) I'd love to see some answers from people who have a Stream 3, but also from people who don't, to learn what it would take for you to upgrade your Stream 2! Looking forward to reading your answers! Looking for new beta testers.
2
Hello! We're looking for a few new beta testers for the Stream 3. Criteria to join: 1- Comfortable with technology: you will have to update your Stream 3 using an SD card and downloading builds via a web link. We want people who are comfortable doing this. 2- Agree to provide feedback in a constructive manner: alpha and beta builds can be sometimes a bit unstable. Don't expect it to be perfect. You will have to provide feedback including steps to reproduce the issue, the build version you're running, and send us logs. 3- Agree to confidentiality: Do not discuss the beta versions, either in general or specific terms, with anyone. 4- Be a Stream 3 owner: we will not be providing units for this beta. 5- Technical support: our tech support team does not offer tech support on beta units. If you call in with a beta version, they will refuse to help. If you need to contact support about an issue unrelated to beta, please roll back to a current "normal" build using the links on our support page. If you are interested in joining (places are limited!), please email me at mathieu.paquette [at] humanware.com . Note that we do not have any ongoing beta right now, but we'll have one in the coming weeks. Thank you! Mathieu Paquette Product Manager

Latest For Owners of the Victor Reader Stream 3: Version 1.3.1 is live!
5
Just seen on David Goldfield's list. Many useful links to a direct download, though given the much faster Wi-Fi connection of the VR3should hardly be necessary. Ray. From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Mathieu via groups.io Hello everyone! Version 1.3.1 of the Stream 3 is now available. You can manually check for update on your Stream 3, or simply reboot, to receive the update. This hotfix includes a fix to the issue some people had when more than a few hundred folders are present in either the internal memory or the SD card and was causing the offline bookshelf not to load. There are also 2 minor fixes to newspapers delivered through DOD in Sweden and the Netherlands. Here are the links to download the update manually should you need it. Audio Book Now
4
It was suggested that I share this post I made to TAVIP here. With all the discussion about access to Audible content I thought it was worth informing people about another accessible, non-DRM protected Audio book Service. As I previously reported, I already have accounts with Libro.FM and Audio Books Guild, both of which provide access to downloading their Audio books in mp3 format. Audio Book Guild offer no plans or credits and only allow download in mp3 for 14 days after purchase. They almost exclusively provide books in the Fantasy, Sci Fi and Adult Erotica Genre. Libro have a wider catalogue as well as providing a credit plan. Today I took out a Free Trial Membership to a further Audio Book provider. This is called Audio Book Now. This does not use a credits scheme, but does offer discounts on books to members. You only get the discounts if signed up as a member, and, As far as I can tell, it is completely accessible with easy download of your purchases in mp3 from your library. I downloaded my first book today without issue. You can pay for both books and membership by PayPal to add some extra security. Some books will be very cheap and some less so. On first impression it is competitive with Audible prices. With the $4.99 plan you will get rights to a free book from a selected list, these books tend to be quite short, 50% off any book you purchase from the main catalogue, with further discounts for further purchases. Below are details of my plan and link to the website. Thank you for signing up for the Audiobooks Now Club Pricing Plan. Details of your plan are listed below: Monthly Club Pricing Plan Trial Period: 30 day free trial ($4.99/month thereafter) Monthly Billing Day: 5 --------------------------------------- If you do not deactivate your Club Pricing Plan by the end of your free trail, your card will be charged $4.99/month until the plan is deactivated. To deactivate your plan, simply click on the "Deactivate Monthly Club Pricing" button in your account at our website. Your Club Pricing Plan benefits include: . 50% off your first audiobook each month . 35-40% off everything else you purchase . A free premium audiobook (select titles only) . 50% discounts roll over to the next month . Access to exclusive discounts and offers . Unlimited access to Sleep & Meditation content . Double reward points for credit back . Loyalty program that offers free months . No long-term commitments, cancel anytime www.audiobooksnow.com

Recording on the VR3
I found a little earlier today I am able to record radio programmes on the VR3 as I used to do on my VR trek. I had thought recording was pretty well broken on the previous versions of the VR3 firmware but I find now that recording from my old playlists which have a good number of community and commercial stations that this works still as it should. More than this though even the 60 odd stations in the UK Humanware playlist which has all the BBC feeds works too. I had thought this might not be the case as the recording you get on the older .mp3 streams seems to mirror the sample-bit rate of the station being recorded. I have yet to look at what format the BBC stations end up as, but recording stream live can be useful at times when you want to catch something on the fly. I coul could wish the Stream could buffer recordings in a sort of standby mode, but that would be asking too much! Apart from the VR Stream cutting out for no apparant reason earlier today I have as yet found no serious bugs to report. Ray.

[Tech-VI] For Users of the Victor Reader Stream 3: Version 1.3 is now available!
19
I installed the update yesterday which took a fair time and I was struck by the lack of announcements of the download progress though I was told of installation progress. I see from the announcement that the latest version of AudibleSync should be downloaded to enable Audible book support. Wonder if anyone can point me to a source telling me how to enable and use Audible on the VR Stream 3? I might now be interested in buying some Audible titles. What a pity we cannot access RNIB Talking Books on the VR3 - or any other specailist player for that matter. Not much inclined to go the Dolphin Easy Reader route which I think is the only option open to us for listening on phones and the like. Of course I could do this on my PC and a reminder of the URL for the RNIB download service would be nice to have if anyone would provide it. The link I have seems to refer to books to order rather than to download. How depressing it is that so many countries seem to support the download of audio books from their national libraries - but not the UK. Just one more reason I feel I am living in a NAF country. Ray. FW: Version 1.3 for the Stream 3 is now available!
Version 1.3 for the Stream 3 is now available! Having trouble viewing this e-mail? Click here Version 1.3 for the Stream 3 is now available! We’re excited to introduce the latest software updates for the Victor Reader Stream, bringing you new features and exciting functional updates.Audible? Absolutely! We are very happy to announce the availability of Audible on the Stream 3! Thanks to a collaborative effort with the great people at Amazon, you can now read Audible books on your Stream 3. Furthermore, device activation is now stored in the internal memory of the player instead of the SD card, so you no longer need to activate every SD card. If you already have Audible books on an SD card, simply activating your player will allow you to read them. Note that books for Audible can now be downloaded to internal memory, but can still be moved to the SD card by pressing the “3” key. Note that you will need to update your AudibleSync software to version 1.8.16 or above so it can see the Stream.Exciting features added! You asked - we delivered! We’ve made several notable changes that we think you’ll appreciate.Alphabetical order on bookshelves Your books will now be organized alphabetically on all the bookshelves – so no more scrambling around to find a particular title in your collection!Faster SD card load We’ve implemented some optimizations in the indexation of the SD card that now makes it much faster to load. The bigger the card, the more significant the improvement. Try it out!Suspend mode Enable this option in the General Settings to turn the Power button into a Suspend button. Suspending the device will result in less battery usage than when turned on, and it can be woken up much faster. If you want to shut down completely, an option is available at the end of the settings menu when Suspend mode is enabled.Audio decoder update We’ve updated the audio decoder in the Stream. This means that a few stations that didn’t work with the previous version will now work, especially in the TuneIn bookshelf.Acapela voice update and new voices We’ve updated the TTS voices to the latest version of Acapela. This allows us to offer additional voices, and the quality of the existing voices has been enhanced. IMPORTANT: If you have already downloaded different voices, you will be reverted to the default voices and will have to download them again. Try them out!Let us know what you think! just a tip
Hi I have been trying to find a case which fits the new vr stream mark 3, unless I want to spend $150 to get a case from the states for the new stream, I have been looking around. I have found that the original mark 1 stream canvas case fits the new stream, ok you can't get to all the controls but for me it gives the stream a bit of protection. I have attached a lanyard to the case so I am able to hang it around my neck. I am looking around for a more suitable case but this is a good alternative for now. I can't afford to keep dropping my streams. Unfortunately I sold my stream mark 1 leather cases when I got rid of my original streams so if anyone has a leather case for stream mark 1, perhaps you could let me know. Incidentally, down here in Devon there are a lot of artisan leather craft makers, I am contacting one or two to see if they would make me a leather case for my stream, who knows, somebody may be interested in helping me with it. If I hear anything, I will pass it on. Regards Adrien I am raising funds to buy my own wheelchair, I have to do this because of changes to NHS services local to me. If you can help me by donating or spreading the word, please feel free. Many thanks. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/adrien-collins-868 -- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG antivirus software. www.avg.com

Map update available for VR Trek
3
I note when turning on my VR Trek that its offering me a map update. Thought that of interest as someone I think asked if map updates for VR Trek would be available now that the Trek has been discontinued. I shall get around to updating my maps as I have found the VR Trek navigation facility quite useful, although if someone could point me to a link to download these on my PC I'be glad to have it as downloading via the Trek with its snailish download speeds is no joke! ray.

[Living Blindfully Announcement] Three extra Living Blindfully episodes covering the Zoom H Essential series of handy recorders
For those who might be interested Jonathan Mosen is making these excellent descriptions of the new Zoom recorders available in the Living Blindfully podcast feed. (These were originally published in his Blind Podmaker podcasts.) Ray. At 6 AM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday New Zealand time, we’ll be publishing three Living Blindfully Extras going in-depth into each of the Zoom Essential series. On Thursday, episode 272 contains a review of the most capable member of the series, the Zoom H6Essential. ON Friday, we look in episode 273 at its smaller sibling, the Zoom H4Essential, with a few more details that will be of interest to current or potential H6Essential users as well. Finally on Saturday, episode 274 discusses the baby of the family, the Zoom H1Essential. While it’s part of the same series, the H1Essential is quite a different recorder in many respects. All reviews are indexed by chapter, making it easy for you to get to the section you want. This is handy when you’re learning about a recorder with it in front of you. These episodes will be released to everyone at the same time, so those who are currently not financial supporters of our work can listen to them at the same time as Living Blindfully Plus subscribers. We’ll also publish transcripts of all three episodes, making this a handy reference guide if you are searching for something quickly. I hope you find these interesting and helpful. Thanks for listening to Living Blindfully.
