I use mine for books, keep around 50 loaded all the times.

Off the subject, wow, do I envy you having a Kapsys phone.

Hi Clive and all on the group. I am only happy to run this group. I enjoy running them. Obviously it will get more popular as time goes on but we have 15 members so far.

?

As for the stream, I have my two original streams which I haven’t used in a long time and I have my two mark 2 streams. I don’t have the new treck, for me it is pointless as I always have a sighted person with me. I am not certain what benefit it will be to me being in a wheelchair in any case.

?

I use my streams for music, books, podcasts, internet radio and the reference section. As I said though although I will modify this if necessary but we can discuss any of the various audio book devices on here so feel free to chat about any of them, it’ll be interesting to have a comparison between the different gadgets.

?

Ok guys happy posting.

Hi again List.

Clive's comment about sticking with the VRS2 is interesting as I think someone else has said that here too.? I won't of course get the full value of my VR Trek until I do learn to use the orientation application.? That said, I will say that the Trek is a good deal faster than its predecessor.? It boots more quickly; downloads of podcast are speedier.? I think firmware downloads are snappier too if the recent update to give us UK post codes and Audible support is anything to go by.

I do have one problem I'll start another thread to describe, namely, the problem of switching between National BBC streams in the UK playlist.? I venture to ask though before I attempt to describe the problem whether anyone else with a Trek is having a problem here.

No doubt list traffic will be busier when we have the FM radio app going in the next update.

I wonder where Humanware will take the Trek in future, (or do I mean "going forward" as is often said now!? Could other app funtions be incorporated??? Ability to stream podcasts as well as download them?? Access to the BBC iPlayer - (although accessing your BBC account could be a stumpling block here.)Alarms, Count down timer?

Well, all that possibly for another thread like Trek wish list.

Ray.

Hi Ray

Ok I have not seen a treck so have not been following any of the traffic on
it on various lists. With the treck was that the end of the vr stream mark 2
or can we still get the mark 2? I myself wouldn't benefit from the treck, I
wouldn't want to pay the price for it. I wouldn't use the features it
offers.

Yes Adrian, HumanWare haven't retired the Stream but kept it on as a cheaper alternative to the Trek.

Hi Ray

Ok that is great, I think the stream mark 2 is sufficient for most of us. If it was discontinued it would mean us looking elsewhere for something but I think personally I'd have to go a long way to find something as useful in my view as my stream.

As Ray observed, my Stream was bought in the U.S. It was
purchased in June of 2017. I am an avid reader, sometimes
four or five books a week. I am glad that I figured out that
I can read while downloading another book or books. I read
so much that I haven't used the other features other than
the recorder to take notes. I don't even know how the radio
works. Do you put in the number of a station you want, or
how does it work?

I did order another battery for mine, so that I have an
extra and alternate from time to time.

Hi Carolyn

Ok about your stream, I enjoy reading too but am sleeping a lot at the
moment, not been too well. As for the radio, press the button at the top of
the stream, the wifi button, then press one to bring up the book shelves,
cycle through until you come to internet radio, press the 6 or 4 key until
you come to the option for ootunes, press the 8 or 2 key to find the option
you want to select by category or by typing in a name. I did it the latter
way, for example Christmas and then using the 6 key worked my way through
the options until I found the stations I want, when I found a station I then
used my book mark key to add the station to favourites. It is really quite
easy once you have done it once. Give it a go.

Caralyn and all.? Adrian's comments on getting to use the radio side of the Trek are fine, but in any case you should have a default radio playlist active which may well be the American one.

I guess getting to grips with the more complex aspects of the stream or Trek is a bit of a challenge, but worth it.? You can select playlist for other countries, and I've managed to enable the international playlist as well as having the UK one as standard.? In fact someone here who's not shown themselves as yet, has done her own playlists for the UK including local radio lists, which I've found very valuable.? So, although I live in the West midlands I regularly listen to Radio Manchester - and anyone who likes 60s stuff can do worse than give Mike Sweeney's 60s classics on Sunday lunchtimes a listen.? He seems to have listeners all over the place.

Ray.

Hi Ray

I think I know who you are referring to. Yes it'll be good to see more people saying hello on here. I have a large number of stations stored in my favourites but use the standard uk playlist some times. I wonder if they are going to up-grade the stream mark 2 any more or have we had the final up-date now? Who knows.

There is a default. I just enjoy reading so that I've never fooled with it, although my friend in Houston enjoys it.

This weekend, BARD is down for maintenance, as I understand it. I'm told that it will be down until Tuesday, Monday being Presidents' Day here. I could not imagine what was wrong, when I got a service error message and was told on a chat list what my problem was.

lot at the moment, not been too well. As for the radio,
press the button at the top of the stream, the wifi button,
then press one to bring up the book shelves, cycle through
until you come to internet radio, press the 6 or 4 key until
you come to the option for ootunes, press the 8 or 2 key to
find the option you want to select by category or by typing
in a name. I did it the latter way, for example Christmas
and then using the 6 key worked my way through the options
until I found the stations I want, when I found a station I
then used my book mark key to add the station to favourites.
It is really quite easy once you have done it once. Give it
a go.

Regards

Adrien

As Ray observed, my Stream was bought in the U.S. It was
purchased in June of 2017. I am an avid reader, sometimes
four or five books a week. I am glad that I figured out that
I can read while downloading another book or books.
I read so much that I haven't used the other features other
than the recorder to take notes. I don't even know how the
radio works. Do you put in the number of a station you want,
or how does it work?

I did order another battery for mine, so that I have an
extra and alternate from time to time.

Carolyn

Hi Clive and all on the group. I am only happy to run this
group. I enjoy running them. Obviously it will get more
popular as time goes on but we have
15 members so far.

As for the stream, I have my two original streams which I
haven't used in a long time and I have my two mark 2
streams. I don't have the new treck, for me it is pointless
as I always have a sighted person with me. I am not certain
what benefit it will be to me being in a wheelchair in any
case.

I use my streams for music, books, podcasts, internet radio
and the reference section. As I said though although I will
modify this if necessary but we can discuss any of the
various audio book devices on here so feel free to chat
about any of them, it'll be interesting to have a comparison
between the different gadgets.

Ok guys happy posting.

Regards

Adrien

Hello Adrien and fellow list members,

I am Clive from Hythe, Kent, UK. Thank you, Adrien, for
setting up the list.

I have the victor Reader Stream 2 and mainly use it for
podcasts, internet radio, music and BBC radio dramas. As I
have GPS on my Kapsys smartVision 2 phone I don't have the
need for the victor reader Trek.

I look forward to hearing others' experiences on using
HumanWare's great products.

Best wishes,

Clive Pallett

Hi Ray

Ok if so it will probably be for a limited time. I can't see them working on up-dates for both devices, we'll be forced eventually to buy the treck whether we want it or not.

Adrian, I'm inclined to think the Stream wil get updates, but only time will tell.

Ray.

Well, last summer they said that they would be supporting both versions as they knew that there were people who had no need for the Trek.? They still sell the Victor Stream.

Unless proven otherwise, we might want to take them at their word.

I hope they continue to support b both versions, since so many people use smart phones, all of which have navigation. I love my VRS 2.

Hope your day is a diamond,

Carolyn
