Re: Hinns Daisy/Media SensePlayer

Sorry to disagree Matthew and I fully respect your right even obligation to
defend your product.
I may even buy one as well as the Hinns once things are ironed out.
However I am a observer on the list and have heard of multiple issue.
These are not minor.
The inability of the Stream to continue playing text content for more than
half an hour without being plugged in and crashing off has been reported by
multiple contributors and is particularly serious, especially as you then have
apparently to not just turn the Stream back on but re-trawl through all the text
content to relocate where you are.
I won't check back through all the posts but I remember Difficulties in
importing Internet Radio playlist as from memory has problems about recompiling
Podcast lists from opml files from other victor devices.
I cannot quote all the other issues reported but these are the ones which spring
to mind.
I really hope that all this is ironed out and I have supported Victor Reader
products for years on other list but I am surprised that bugs of this kind were
not detected before release and it does really smack to me of a rush to release
without proper quality control and testing to make sure these issues did not
arise on release.
Fore example, did nobody try reading a text based book for more than half an
hour on battery to detect the crash bug?

Hi David,

While it is true that there are a few bugs with the Stream 3, I wouldn't say
"crammed with bugs". There are a few rough edges, and we're working on smoothing
them out.

I can tell you that the release date of the Stream 3 was decided before HIMS
announced their player. It was not a factor, nor did it "rush" anything on our
end.

I just came back from CSUN last week and I saw the HIMS player, it does seem
like a nifty little machine. It has pros and cons, just like the Victor does. At
that point, it becomes a matter of user preference!

The Stream 3 is not out in the UK yet, indeed, it was launched only in the US.
The worldwide release will be done in April.

For your info, we're also working with RNIB for support later this year. Audible
and BBC Sounds is also being worked on. I actually have a meeting with the BBC
scheduled tomorrow!

Thank you.

I have pre-ordered the new SensePlayer from Hinns.
Although I have not received mine I have heard that some have received it
already?
From reading on the Victor Reader lists the panic induced by the release of the
Hinns SensePlayer has caused a bit of a dogs dinner with the early release of
the victor Rader 3 Firmware which seems crammed with bugs and not really fit for
release.
Still it is not even being advertised on the HumanWare UK site when I checked
last night. Only the Stream 2 and trek were purchased options.
Anyway has anybody received the SensePlayer yet and got any first impressions?
I am looking forward to being able to use VoiceDream Reader via smart connect
from my iPhone in addition to the player capabilities.
Apparently both BBC Sounds and Audible will be added as app op[options in the
summer as these bespoke apps will b ported across from the Braille Sense where
apparently they already work.
