Hello Henry,
It's very simple.
What you get is a usb micro appendage which is mounted on a large pin head. It slips into your charging port, just as a micro cable does, and on the other side of this is a pointed male part. The cable that comes with the usb should have a corresponding female end which will magnetise itself to the pointy male appendage. Of course the other end of the cable is inserted into your wall charger.
Be careful as the large pin head is a bit fiddley but once its in the charging port it should stay put.
Hope this helps.

Hi Jim
That is good to know. Jim! If you have the time please could you describe the magnetic charger? I have never encountered one before and wonder how it would fit into the VRS.
Take care
Best wishes
Henry

Henry,
Conversley, HumanWare Europe which is based here are very good and pretty much on the ball.
I've never had a problem since I started using their products, and that's been a while.
You take care also my friend.

Hi Jim
Many thanks for your below reply.
I'll get my sighted friend to look on Amazon. That is sad news about HumanWare and its customer service. The trouble we have is that there is not a lot of competition out there.
Stay well and stay safe

Henry,
No problem my friend.
I've just sent a reply to Adrian where to get them, but Amazon is your place to go.
There was a rumour that the small component that houses the usb micro cable has been poorly soldered and HumanWare have had a lot of complaints about it.
Unfortunately from what I hear both here and over in the USA HumanWare are a company who do not accept that they are the problem and do not accept that their products are poorly designed etc.
A few of our US friends have been shabbily treated by HumanWare.

Hi Jim
Many thanks for your reply.
Please can you tell me where to purchase this magnetic charger
"thingy" ?
Its reassuring to know that other VRS users have had similar problems.
HumanWare are sending out a new cable, but we have discovered that
the short cable is working fine so hopefully we won't have to return
the VRS which is still under guarantee
Best wishes

Hello Ray and Henry,
Yes, I believe that recently purchased streams come with a 2 year warranty.
I have two streams and one has a functioning charging port and works fine. The other doesn't.
To avoid using the standard usb micro cable, I've opted for a magnetic charger.
This is a small device, which can be rather fiddley, but it inserts into your charging port and has a pointy and rather stubby stud like thingy.
Obviously it comes with the relevant cable.
So, the small stud stays planted into your usb charging port and the cable end magnetises to the small stud.
Usually when you buy this, it comes with other types of usb options, Lightning and usbC.
This means that I don't have to hawl a cable in and out of my stream thus preserving it's life.
So, rather than pay ?200 to get my other stream fixed, I paid a wee bit more and opted to get a Stratus m12. It doesn't have all the features of the stream but it's mains / battery operated and has given me a more satisfactory reading experience.
Hope this helps.
Take care and stay safe.

Hello Henry and good to see you here. Things could be better with
lockdown now causing its bit of over due havoc in my life, but not
quite the place to discuss that.
I have heard quite a few complaints about the USB socket getting
loose on the VRS. All I can say it I have two VR streams and
neither of them have, as yet, had this problem.
If your VRS is a recent purchase then I would say that Humanware
should surely replace the motherboard which I think is what they
have to do to put right this fault. If not under guarantee it can
be quite expensive to get repaired.
Might not be megga helpful to suggest you try keeping the USB
adaptor lead plugged into the stream and connect charging devices
and a computer via a standard USB lead plugged into the adaptor.
I always find it disappointing that relatively edxpensive special
tech gets these problems. I hope I can be forgiven thinking the
price we pay for it should mean it is better designed and manufactured.
Ray.

Hi
This is my first email to this group and trust everyone is keeping
safe and well?
We have had our VRS for a couple of months and we have now noticed
that the recharging connection to the VRS itself is becoming loose.
We wonder if others are having a similar issue?
Best wishes
