Very interesting remarks you make David regarding the
unsatisfactory terms of service imposed by Audible and the remark
about Kindle Books made by someone else.? I hear of people who
seem to devour Kindle Books on their iPads and the like but
imagine they would not be slow in condemning Kindle were they to
use access to their libraries.
You might David post a message here you sent to TAVIP on another
audio book service, Audio Book Now. along with other publishers of
audio books.? Its good to know of other guys on the block, so to
speak.
Having read all the comments here, I would be tempted to give
Open Audible a go, but the unfare prractices of Amazon and the
like always leave one open to the sorts of corporate abuse many
complain of.

Open Audible are a legit company with
thousands of? users but I am sure, Audible are not thrilled.
It is not free and requires ?the
purchase of an annual licence or life time licence.
It has a constant update cycle,
sometimes more than once a week, which is a bit annoying.
However. I would never be without it, as without it I would
not be able to increase the volume on my Audible books.

So, is Open Audible an "unofficial" way to go about
downloading books, or am I perhaps asking something I should
not be asking?

Hi Ray
Open audible isn’t talked about as
much as audible sink but I prefer it, just my choice, it
is easier, no messing around connecting gadgets to
audible.

The suspend feature is great, the
stream wakes up straight away and you don’t need to scan
the sd card again.

Thanks David for the explanation of installing and using
Audible which I might now go and investigate now the VR3 at
last does support Audible officially.
?
I am somewhat bemuzed by Adrian's mention of Open Audible.?
Is there a catch to using this?? If its as straightforward
as indicated then perhaps many are using Open Audible
already?
?
Hard to see the advantage of standby or suspend mode.? I'd
have thought all that's needed is for the VR3 to turn off
automatically after a given time which could be adjusted in
settings.
?
My final thought which in fact I've had for a while is that
HumanWare seem somewaht overstretched when it comes to
devoting time and resources to bringing the VR3 to the point
it should have been at from the start.? Could it be their
development resources are spread too thin, what with its
involvement with the monach Braille tablet display and all
the clever things it can do?? There is also ongoing releases
of magnification and easy conveneient reading solutions
which allow quick reading of print documents? So I suspect
the time needed to bring the VR3 to the stage its in now has
been curtailed by development efforts elsewhere and the
result is the reputation of HW providing a much respected
audio reader for book lovers and easy podcast and radio
access has been somewhat dented.?? A worthwhile market I'd
say not withstanding the contant reminders from some
quarters of the virtues of the do it all smart phone.

Hi David

I am currently downloading my
audible library with open audible, it is much easier,
only $19, and it converts the books to mp3, a lot less
hassle. I can listen to the all on my vr stream. ?

Dear Ray
I will not be personally using
the Audible feature but as I understand it.
- Download Audible Sync
to your computer from
Install Audible Sync and
log in with your Audible credentials. Some users report
having to close and restart the app to successfully
complete this process.
- Connect your Stream 3
to your computer and make sure it is turned on. Then
find the option to activate device from within the
Audible Sync app. With this new process it is the
Stream itself rather than SD card which is activated.
- Then as I understand it
you can download and transfer Audible Books to your
connected Stream for playing. If it is like the VR 2
and additional Audible Bookshelf ?will appear on the
Stream in offline mode.
Hope that helps.

I installed the update yesterday which took a fair time
and I was struck by the lack of announcements of the
download progress though I was told of installation
progress.
?
I see from the announcement that the latest version of
AudibleSync should be downloaded to enable Audible book
support.? Wonder if anyone can point me to a source
telling me how to enable and use Audible on the VR Stream
3?? I might now be interested in buying some Audible
titles.
?
What a pity we cannot access RNIB Talking Books on the
VR3 - or any other specailist player for that matter.? Not
much inclined to go the Dolphin Easy Reader route which I
think is the only option open to us for listening on
phones and the like.? Of course I could do this on my PC
and a reminder of the URL for the RNIB download service
would be nice to have if anyone would provide it.? The
link I have seems to refer to books to order rather than
to download.
?
How depressing it is that so many countries seem to
support the download of audio books from their national
libraries - but not the UK.? Just one more reason I feel I
am living in a NAF country.
