Re: Stream 3 - version 1.2 announcement

Hi Steve

I can do most things with the bt keyboard, somethings I struggle with,
I have all the regular apps installed, youtube, messenger, messages, phone etc, just anything with the touch screen I struggle with. It's my sensitivity after my cerebral palsy where I struggle. Even struggle to read braille, my hands just aren't sensitive enough. I can tap but have never mastered the gestures.

Regards

Adrien

You can control your phone by voice using Google Assistant if you are on Android, or Siri, if on iPhone.
Example, if you get a phone call, you can say Hey Google, Answer The Call.
What do you need to do that you can't?

All the best

Hi Steve

I knew rnib had a skill but not calibre. What app do I need to control my phone by voice though, I think there are several? I know you can make calls via google assistant but to actually control my phone by voice would be great.

You could use Amazon Alexa, and link the RNIB and Calibre skills.

Hi Steve

I am not great with touch screens so what do I need to operate my phone by voice, for me this may be a good option for dexterity reasons?

But you can play radio stations using your voice, with any Android or iPhone, so it's not difficult at all. You can even install Amazon Alexa to your phone, so again, I think specialist devices' days are numbered, unless they do something really special.

I shall always pass on doing it all on a phone given that I skip around a lot to listen to many BBC streams including Northern Ireland at times, but many commercial community ones too. I would put in a mention of the Synapptic adaptation for Android phones here as this does allow for pretty easy and rapid jumping around by voice command as well as a favourites list. Once you've got your head around installing BBC Sounds on a smart speaker then it does become easy to do what I do, jumping around a lot. Mind you I for one did not find the installation/activation of BBC Sounds at all obvious, not to me at least. So I would say that in this wonderfuyl world of digital possibilities I can see a role for volunteers who do know what they are doing and are appropriately cleared for security and turstworthiness to go into people's homes and set it up where necessary.

Hi Ray,
I'm inclined to agree with you about Tune-In. It's a bit of a waste of time on a specialist device, you may as well grab the streams yourself, as you have done.

Hello, I have a playlist of all the BBC stations, some 64 streams in all, which can be imported into the Stream 3. If you are able to import a playlist then I could send it in the next day or two. It may be that David Griffiths who's on this list could do you the favour of sending you this list which I found originally on a web page within Get-hub. David corrected the HLS URL for FiveLive sport which did not work correctly in the list I found a few weeks ago.

I eagerly awaite notification from my VR3 that the update is available, and I hope it manages to fix the problem I have with Bluetooth not working on my Bose speakers, an issue not mentioned as far as I can see in the bug fixes.

I do not find myself overwhelmed at the idea of using Tune-in as I can get pretty well all the stations I need either via playlists I have installed on the VR3 or via my Amazon-enabled speakers to listen to BBC Sounds or a selection of commercial/community stations. I could not listen to Mushroom FM until I enabled the skill for Mushroom put out by Jonathan Mosen.

I am not enamoured by Tune-in generally given its time-waisting adverts that insert themselves when using my Google Nest speaker.

Hi Steve,
Is there any way of getting BBC without using Sounds?
My BS6 web radio could until a couple of weeks ago.
My lack of dexterity makes it difficult on Sounds, and BS6 Android Platform is primitive, don't mention the upcoming, promised, imm3eiq53immediate HIMS update, second coming will happen first!!
I love my bbc radio!

Yep, there is no BBC on Tune In, so it will be of little value to the UK.

Hi Matthieu

Thank you for letting us know.
I have not bought a new Stream yet, but have a question.

As the Internet Radio now uses TuneIn, does that mean we are restricted in the UK to what stations we can select, like we are on Alexa and Google?
