Subject: [dabb] River Rats at Comets

?

Game 1 Comets 11 River Rats 1 -- Mike Sharperson drove in four runs and Ken Caminiti three, as the Comets blasted Ringgold starter David Cone with all nine starters contributing at least one hit. Bud Black got the complete game for the Comets allowing just one run on a Paulie Sorrento two-out single in the first.?

Game 2 River Rats 3 Comets 2 (12 innings) -- Brett Butler tripled to lead off the game and scored on a Brady Anderson sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Ringgold lead. That was all the offense for the River Rats until the top of the 11th when Butler singled off Jay Howell and stole second, was moved up to third and scored on an Anderson single through a drawn-in infield for a 2-1 advantage. The Comets, who hit into two double plays with the bases loaded during the game, had tied it on a Lenny Webster two-out single in the bottom of the 8th, faced another deficit. With one out, Ken Caminiti doubled and was replaced by Bret Barberie who promptly stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Tracy Woodson to tie the game back up. Gregg Jefferies led off the top of the 12th with a triple off reliever Rick Aguilera and the River Rats were in business again. Tony Pena laid down the perfect squeeze bunt and Ringgold led again. Reliever Tom Henke walked pinch-hitter Ricky Jordan to lead off the inning and Vince Coleman singled. Mike Sharperson hit a taylor-made double-play grounder but managed to beat the throw to first to put runners at the corners with one out. Ron Karkovice drew another walk from Henke and the bases were loaded for Mark McGwire. McGwire hit a smash right at Raphael Belliard who started an easy 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

Game 3 River Rats 5 Comets 0 -- Ringgold took game three with no drama as Randy Tomlin went the distance scattering just four hits, striking out five and not walking a batter. The River Rats had a two-run homer by Eddie Murray off starter Dave Fleming and then got a three-run insurance bomb off the bat of Leo Gomez to greet reliever Mike Maddux in the seventh after Fleming put the first two runners on in the inning.?
