Game 1 Hounds 3 Comets 1 -- Kevin Appier held the Comets to just 4 hits and the Canton defense committed 3 errors leading to a pair of unearned runs as the Hounds took game 1. Ken Griffey swatted three doubles, drove in a run and scored twice to lead
the Homer attack. Albert Belle had two of the Comets' hits.?
Game 2 Hounds 4 Comets 2 -- Cal Eldred shut the Comets down and took a 4-0 lead to the 9th before Greg Gagne's error gave the home team life. Ken Caminiti hit a two-run homer to cut the lead in half and when Jerry Browne singled with one out, the tying
run came to the plate. The Comets sent Mark McGwire up to pinch-hit while Duane Ward came out of the pen for the Hounds and shut the door on the comeback. Matt Williams put the Hounds up 1-0 in the second with an RBI triple and scored on a sac fly by Greg
Gagne. Williams stroked a two-run single in the top of the 8th to make it 4-0.?
Game 3 Comets 10 Hounds 8 -- The Hounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI double by Ron Gant and it looked like a sweep was in the offing. But the Comets exploded in the bottom of the inning as Lenny Webster tied the game with a single
and was aboard when Mark McGwire hit a tape-measure shot to center. Albert Belle and Ken Caminiti hit back-to-back singles and Danny Tartabull hit a three-run homer. The Hounds fought back and Robby Thompson homered to lead off the second to cut into the deficit.
In the top of the sixth, still trailing 6-2, the Hounds exploded. Jeff Bagwell doubled home one run and Matt Williams hit a two-out, two-run homer to make it 6-5. Greg Gagne singled and stole second and scored to tie the game on Benito Santiago's single. Santiago
came home on a Kirby Puckett double to give the Hounds the lead. Steve Howe relieved Zane Smith who was now in line for a win. Ken Caminiti led off with a single and back-to-back walks loaded the bases. But, Larry Andersen came on in relief of Howe and struck
out Mike Bordick and Milt Thompson and induced a pop up from Mike Sharperson to keep the lead. Bagwell gave the Hounds an insurance tally with a homer off Jim Corsi to make the lead 8-6. McGwire hit a solo homer off Andersen in the bottom of the 7th to cut
it to a one-run game. Belle bounced a ball up the middle for a hit and Tartabull singled with two-outs to put runners at the corners. Jerry Browne singled home the tying run and was aboard as Bordick greeted reliever Duane Ward with a double into the gap to
give the home team a 10-8 lead. Rick Aguilera and Jay Howell pitched clean innings to close out the slugfest and salvage one game from the series.?
