radio to radio operation
9
Hello All: I am trying to run DRATS radio -to- radio, with Internet and Ratflectord disabled. Radio setup for com port and baud, and port <=> radio tested via programming as OK. Raw and Sniffer says transmission is received, but no text in Chat or seen in log. TX Message off, no GPS TX on both radios. Any thoughts from the group? Thanks, -- Jeff Marden KB1TJI

Missing in action
5
I've had a serious viral infection for the past three weeks, and have been in the hospital for the past eight days. I'm still not over it yet, but at least I'm back home. This is the first chance I've had to check in on the group. I'm glad to see there are active discussions taking place. I think a bridge between D-STAR and packet radio is an excellent way to show EMCOMM groups the benefits of D-STAR and D-RATS. Thanks for keeping the flags flying during my absence. Patrick (N3TSZ)

Fix for tnc tied to D-RATS repeater/reflector
3
Tried to post a message tonight and it didn't "take", so if this is a duplicate, I have to apologize: Dan, thanks for the kudos. I think you'll even be more happy that we have been able to make the tnc work DIRECTLY with the ratflector software without needing the TCP/IP "layer". Mr. Thielen from the Toledo Mobile Radio Association shared with me his configuration file. Turns out that DRATS puts an extra colon (:) behind the com port setting that causes it to mess up the repeater/reflector software during startup. Fix the configuration file, problem goes away. The configuration file is named repeater.config and can be found using windows search. It will be in different locations depending upon which operating system you are running. Anyway, our old configuration was: devices = [('net:192.168.1.147:20011', ''), ('tnc:COM6:0:', '9600')] Remove the extra colon devices = [('net:192.168.1.147:20011', ''), ('tnc:COM6:0', '9600')] And now the TNC works directly with the repeater/ratflector software. If you have a soundcard, all you need to do is get the AGWExpress software from http://w2ygsoftware.com/Home/AGWE and it will set up a virtual com port to the TCP port on the soundcard modem software. Best Regards, Jeff Scoville AE5ME

D-RATS ICS Forms
3
I am trying to convince our public service folks to use the ICS forms when they do public service events. I think they would help to organize operations. I am also trying to demonstrate the power of DStar/D-RATS by having them make DStar an option at the events. I have just added a folder to store ICS forms for D-RATS. I added all the standard forms to this folder (in case something happens to the ones in your D-RATS). One of the forms that was missing was the ICS-214, Activity Log. I have created an activity log and style sheet which I have also uploaded to this folder. Just download the ICS-214, XML and XSL files and copy them into your D-RATS forms folder. Then restart D-RATS and there they are ready for use. At time goes on I plan to create others, but if anyone has any other forms they created that they would like to share, drop them in the folder. Thanks David, AC7DS

D-Rats, Packet, and UZ7HO
29
I've been playing around this weekend with D-Rats over packet, and have a fairly stable test bed running with three PCs. The goal was to connect non-DSTAR users using D-RATS without a lot of expense (ie, TNCs). Until this weekend all of my attempts at this have used the free AGWPE on Win 7 and XP and Signalinks. I understand that it can be done, but I have never been able to make it work consistently. Yesterday I had the idea of trying UZ7HO's soundmodem app in place of AGWPE. Wow, what a difference! Setup was very fast. I think the only thing I had to do to soundmodem was set the baud rate and select the right sound card source. D-Rats is set up as if it is connecting to AGWPE. Works great! Now, I wish even more than every that someone could take a look at the D-RATS repeater app to try to fix the problem that keeps it from working with TNCs and AGWPE. That, IMHO, would be nirvana - a way to connect PCs using analog radios, D-STAR radios, and the internet. Still doing some testing. I'm putting together a document with screenshots of the setup. Will post that if anyone is interested. Dan W4TO

D-RATS not connecting to Hotspot - Wrong protocol?
4
All, I am trying to connect my D-RATS terminal to my Hotspot (Connected to REF 15C) for testing. I get an error from D-RATS software, stating, "Unable to Connect 10061, connection refused." How to fix TNC to repeater/ratflector problem
Find the repeater.config file. devices = [('net:192.168.1.147:20011', ''), ('tnc:COM6:0:', '9600')] Remove the extra colon after the COM6:0: devices = [('net:192.168.1.147:20011', ''), ('tnc:COM6:0', '9600')] Then it loads fine!
