'sudo usermod -G dialup pi'

OK. I now have the ratflector working on the Raspberry Pi. I have yet to connect it to my 880H like I had it connected with on my laptop. From what I read you have to add the user "pi" somewhere in the code to enable to the Pi to access the serial converter.

I'm not quite sure where to ad that user though. I'll have to search around unless someone has done this on here already.

It shows that line of code in the instructions. My issue is I don't know where to put the code in order for it to work. I assume it goes somewhere in the D-RATS Pi code. I just don't know where.

It's not a line of code. It is a command that adds the user pi to the dialout group so pi has permissions to access the port.?

A command is a line of code since it is indeed coded in a language used by a specific operating system.?
I understand what a command is since getting D-RATS running on a Pi computer is nothing but entering commands.?
The question I had is how would I use that command line since I start d-rats through the graphical interface and not through the terminal. Or do I have to start D-rats in the terminal and enter that command every time I start it?

Keith, you should just run that command one time in a shell session on
the Pi. It adds the user "pi" to the "dialup" group. Once it's done it
should stick.

This looks like a good?place for this question!

I now have my PI-RATS setup and running, however when I try to connect one of my other computers (in the same network)?to the ratflector I get a message: (unable to connect 10061 connection refused). I have tried changing my callsign in drats to no avail, is it because of them both being on the same router, they did talk to one another prior to getting the system working correctly, (while trying to figure out what I was doing wrong with the addressing they would talk in?D-RATS)

Thanks in Advance

Al

For that particular issue, believe it or not, when you open the D-RATS repeater program, don't type anything into any of the fields, just make sure trust localhost is checked. Hit start.

That doesn't resolve any issues though when trying to get in through outside your network though.

Thanks for the speedy reply and help!

Nope did not change a thing, here we go again in pursuit of issues. Oh well that is what makes this all fun! I will post when I resolve the issue.

Al?

OK.?
Under file-preferences-radio in the d-rats communications tool did you add a new port to link the "localhost" on your Raspberry Pi? Your raspberry is running the localhost and your computers need to be directed to find it.

Oh yes, I have tried a number of different names on the other computers to no avail, but localhost has been up all along

Al

Did you give the Raspberry a static IP address?
If not look up how to do so and get that done.

This may be stupid but in the repeater program is "accept incoming connections" checked as well?

Keith

Yes to both questions, I have outside traffic on it now.

Ok. So you're saying you can get into it from outside the home network but not from inside it?

II found my boo boo I was using the wrong ip address, it needs to be the internal address not the web access address. I can do some dumb things sometimes! Thanks for all your help and patience.

There you go. No problem. The guys on here really helped me out when I needed it. I thought I would just pass along what I learned if it worked to spare you the headache.

OK thanks, just sometimes I get addled and need to settle down and think about what I have done and what needs to happen. Until this thread came up I had pretty much put the drats project out of my mind.

Thanks Again

Al

That is why I set this one up, for our emcomm group to use. We have DSTAR 2M, 440, and 1.2 GHZ repeaters and?we?just wanted to have an online D-RATS to free up the frequencies. We will probably use it for our practice nets. And hey I am one of those old timers, but I take no offense at the moniker, if the shoe fits...

Pleasure talking and working with you!
