D-RATS & AX25 (9600 baud question)

All,

I just got back into using D-RATS. I am using version 02232012 on a couple DR-235TMKIII's w/TNC (1.25 m). 1200 baud is working great!! I just can't get my two terminals to communicate at 9600 baud.

My two terminals can communicate 9600 baud in terminal mode (using PuTTY).

Can D-RATS communicate at AX25 at 9600 baud?

Thanks for any response.

Interesting. I don't know of anyone using 9600 bps packet and D-RATS. Just keep in mind that the port speed setting in D-RATS is the speed at which D-RATS communicates with the TNC and not the over the air transfer speed.

Understand. D-RATS communicates with the TNC at 9600 baud (tbaud) and I set the HBAUD to 9600 prior to putting the TNC into KISS. As D-RATS transmits, I hear the whisper of 9600 baud packet.

Ok, great. Then you are in uncharted territorry. Please keep the group updated with your progress as I am interested in D-RATS expanding outside the D-STAR relm.

Thanks, N3TSZ

Have you managed to gateway from

d-rats---tnc----<radio>----<radio>----tnc---ratfelctor---dstar--->>>

This si what i am looking to do and then help build a gateway between the digital and analogue worlds so we can exchnage chat and e-mail.

Here in the UK most packet (not much about) is 1200 baud, we also run IP over radio using the 44 block.

2 thought processes either using ax25 or running d--rats on the existing ip 44 network (over radio) could work.

my ratflector will hook up to the tnc and also the internet ratflector, however whilst trying to connect to my DV dongle it just crahes out.

DV dongle works on its own in d-rats though which is sttrange.

anyway look forward to hearing from you and on your progress

I have tried this with both a Kantronics TNC and AGWPE, and I cannot make the AX25 piece work on the ratflector app. ?AX25 seems to work with the DRATS client. ?I think there may be a bug in the ratflector app. ?If it could be made to work I think this would be very useful.

Ok thanks for the reports I will test again too and let you know if i get the same issues.

I did report back on the dv-dongle in the repeater and that DID NOT work either.

Works fine in the d-rats application though

Hopefully this is a really really simple fix **Please*

Cheers

I had hoped that it could be an easy fix, but I haven't been able to get anywhere with it. ???Everyone we have talked to (including the developer) about it has said that there is not much developing going on with the ratflector app, and they don't seem to see much interest in AX25 on a ratflector.?? I think it would be an extremely useful tool if it could be made to work.?

?

James, I just read your email again, and I believe you said you made a TNC work with a ratflector but not with a dongle.? Did you really make a TNC work with a ratflector?? That is what I have had trouble accomplishing.??

?

I don't really see the benefit of connecting a dongle to a ratflector.?? A DVAP, maybe but not sure about a dongle.???? Are you trying to connect a DV-Dongle????

?

My idea was to have a ratflector with a TNC and D-STAR radio connected. ??That would allow both D-STAR and non-D-STAR radios to connect to the ratflector.?? Then, the ratflector could connect to multiple D-RATS nodes, and everyone would be tied together.??? I'm not sure what a DV-Dongle would add to that.

sorry tnc to d-rats only not the ratflector...

The DV dongle is more proof of concept, its the only D-Star item I have access to at this time, so think of it as a radio (to be bought at Christmas!)

Will test tnc again tonight with my fellow packet guy and see if we get anywhere, will report back tomorrow.

Did you see if you ran 44 IP over packet you could easily connect ratflector to network / 44 and put it over radio????

Will test that also..

Cheers

We're in the same place, then.? I have made a tnc work on d-rats, but cannot make it work on a ratflector.?? ??I don't understand your question about "44 IP".????

Hi Dan,

OK so the next stage up from ax25 / packet radio is to put the old TNC in kiss mode and from Linux assign an IP address to the radio interface.

In Ham radio we have ampr.org which is a full class A subnet 44.0.0.0

it basically means you can build an IP network connected over normal ham radio 2 meters 70 cms or whatever.

Much slower but think wi-fi

given each radio station is now an IP address on a network, there is no reason to set ratflector to talk ax-25.

You set up ratflector to listen on port 9001 on your 44.x network (radio side) and get the other radio users to point the d-rats client over network to 44.x.y.z

The radios will key up and send the data back and forth

This will also work over the mesh (wi-fi) networks used by hams

I guess its much easier than ax25 as far as the ratflector goes and you should at least get tnc talking to the main d-rat server

How we span in to the d-star network I have no idea..

Cheers

James.

Very interesting concept, James.?? I'm not familiar with ampr.org.?? I will have to check it out. ??
