I had to do a complete reinstall of Windows 10 to rebuild the registry, as it had gotten severely corrupted. As a result, I was off the air from Sept. 12-20, 2021. So, I had to do a fresh install of BlueDV, and of D-Rats on the system. While I got most everything set up (I don't use D-Rats for sending email or for Winlink; as I use GMail and Winlink Express separately for those), I'm having a problem with the maps and the OpenWeather app.
I entered my api values from thunderforest.com for the maps, and from openweather.org -- but the data is not going out on the weather or the maps, and when I view the maps, it's from someplace overseas...even though I entered my latitude and longitude in the settings.?
If there's a file in here where I could get that info (the older version of D-Rats allowed you to download map tiles, but the current one does not), I'd appreciate it.

Hi Daryl, if you open the log file, at the very beginning there is a line which tells you where is the config file:
Mainapp ? : Enabled debug log for Win32 systems Version : headers={'User-Agent': 'd-rats/0.3.9 '} (....) Qst ? ? ? : FeedParser not available Qst ? ? ? : QSTWeatherWU class retired Config ? ?: FILE: C:\Users\mauri\AppData\Roaming\D-RATS-EV\d-rats.config Mainapp ? : Loading locale `en' Mainapp ? : Locale dir is: C:\Users\mauri\Desktop\D-Rats-0.3.9\locale ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
you can then edit it or simply rename it to force drats to create a new one from scratch.
if you edit the file, be sure that the thuderforest parameters appear in this format:
keyformapurlcycle = ?apikey=5a1a4a79354244a38707d83969fd88a2
(i.e. the "?apikey=" prefix shall be there)
for the coordinates, these shall be with a dot separator, like:
[user] name = Maurizio Andreotti altitude = 0 longitude = 9.430000 units = Metric callsign = IZ2LXI latitude = 45.802020
hope this helps best regards, maurizio

Daryl, your lat long input use a minus sign infront of your longitude ie. -73.1234. This tells the software you are West of Greenwich England.

Maurizio,
?The maps data is working fine now...but I can't get the OpenWeather data to work. Under File -> Preferences -> Chat, for the OpenWeather uri, it has
? In the box for OpenWeather appid, do I need to add the ?apikey= statement, or just the code/id (with numbers and letters)??
? Then, for the location, what values can I use there?? I looked at the OpenWeatherMap website, and it mentioned I could use a zip code (native to the United States), or possibly a latitude/longitude (I don't recall the message now). Previously, I thought I had the ID for my city (LITTLE ROCK,AR,US) -- but now, it won't show up in the QST or the chat window when I click on it. I originally had it going out at 15 minutes past the hour, once the new weather observation was in...as I figured once an hour was plenty.
? On another note, I was using the GPS-A deal to send out my location, as it's for my QTH, a static location. Is that the right parameter under the QST's to send that out?? The only way I see it on aprs.fi is if I search for my callsign. If I just type in my city "Little Rock, AR", my data doesn't show up.

I have no idea what is wrong with it. I guess I have to delete D-Rats, and do a complete fresh download and install. I guess doing that with the reinstall of Windows 10 64-bit and rebuilding of the registry didn't do any good, either.
I have gone to the openweather website, and copied down my api code, and entered it where I should in D-Rats. I then entered the city as LITTLE ROCK,AR,US in the QST under OpenWeather for current. Nothing shows up either in the ratflector window, or the QST window.?
I have followed the instructions given in other URL's in this thread to the letter, and it still will not work. I'm stumped and frustrated to say the least. I even exited D-Rats, and went into the hidden files are to edit the data into the configuration file, and restarted the program...nothing. I only have it going out once an hour.
Glen, KG5CEN, was able to get the data from Little Rock to display, but the app seems to be broken on my end. So, I zapped it and reinstalled it...still no dice. So, I'm going to give up on it.

Daryl,
I don¡¯t think the app likes all CAPS.??The string to use in the QST is ¡°Little Rock,ar,us¡±. Notice the caps are only used in the city name, the rest is all lower case.??If you put the state and country designation in CAPS it won¡¯t work.??Trust me on this, I ran into the same problem when I first set the thing up.
Cordially,
Glen P. Strecker
|
Glen,
? I tried that (lower case for the city and state) as well...still nothing. I even did a complete uninstall and re-install of D-Rats this morning for the umpteenth time...still nothing. I even went into the hidden files to manually edit the configuration file with the string...still nothing.
? I don't know if getting a new API would work or not. Why it will work and display for other stations and not me, is frustrating to say the least. Before I had to reinstall Windows 10 to rebuild the registry (because the BlueDV program that I use for accessing D-Star, wouldn't load, run, install, or uninstall, otherwise), it worked. Why it won't work now, I have no clue.

Daryl and Glen, ? I am having similar issues here and short of the uninstall also tried the same steps Daryl has. I did generate a new API key and the results were the same. Also have done this with both my workstation and my laptop. So I have a built in second look at the process. Version 0.3.9 on the workstation, pretty sure same on laptop but it is not in the office here. ? Jack ¨C KD4IZ ?

When I sent the Current Weather string out the other night, I was using Windows 10 running under Parallels Desktop on my iMac.??I was also able to generate it from the ratflector running on a Raspberry Pi as KG5CEN-1.??The ratflector is running:
d-rats 0.3.9?
Python 2.7.16
GTK 2.24.32
PyGTK 2.24.0
LibXML using 0.5 KB
Under the Help, About on the Windows setup, it shows:
d-rats 0.3.9
Python 2.7.9?
GTK 2.24.10?
PyGTK 2.24.0?
LibXML using 0.4 KB
On an RCA Windows 10 tablet computer with the same Windows settings as above I can also generate the Weather string under KG5CEN-2.
I am not sure what is going on, but one thing is certain, I have not attempted to upgrade to any of the experimental new builds since Maurizio came out with the original 0.3.9 build.??Has something been changed in the currently downloadable build since these folks are saying they had to reinstall D-Rats?

Hi jack I tested Yesterday night the openweather on a newly installed d-rats on Windows 10 (regularly updated via Microsoft) and... It worked using both Milan Italy and New York usa forecasts.
Can you check the debug log file to s¨¦e what happens when It tries? contacting openweather? In case of errors it should say something about getting refused connection or invalid data received or invalid invokation of some module (in case it is missing)?
By the way i had some other? struggles in getting d-rats starting on the new pc.? Although i was launching d-rats program as administrator,? the Windows 10 was not giving It enough permissions ti create files so It was n¨°t saving the config file at all and crashing before opening the graphic interface
I solved forcing to "execute always as administrator" in the file options of the d-rats exe file. It's the first time I get into this, maybe someone has a better solution

hi!
so, from your log the only error related to openweather that i see is this one:
IOError: [Errno socket error] [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:581)
After googling, I think this is something?related to SSL at Windows10 level, not sure how to fix?it.
the only hint i can give is to remove the "s" from https: got to? ? ? ?file->preferences->CHAT Edit the openweather uri changing http:// into http://
in my case, on windows 10, it works in both cased (with and without the s)
hope this?helps maurizio

I think I just found another problem.? We were talking about weather reports so much, I missed that a problem had developed on the Maps too.? If, for example, you had already cycled through downloading all of your Base maps for your area a while back, they will still work because the tiles were saved in the maps directory.? However, if you try to download maps for another area, the Maps window indicates it is downloading tiles, but nothing shows up except the stations that would appear in that zoom level.? The program has ceased downloading map tiles from the source.? For me, even after doing Windows updates, my weather information is still working, but attempts to download new areas in Maps from either openstreetmaps or from thunderforest are not working.
|
Okay, I got the thunderforest maps to work again by removing the "s" from the https at the beginning of the url.? That did not work for the openstreetmaps.? Did they start using apikeys recently?

That was it! Remove the ¡°s¡± from https://¡±. Happy Happy! Thanks many times over, ? KD4IZ Jack Spitznagel FM19oo ? ? ?

Glen,
? That solved the problem on both!! Remove the s from https for the maps and the openweather api deal and just have it as http -- I figured it was something simple. I'll have to update the mode overview files for that...but with storms forecast here overnight through Sunday, it'll be Monday before I can get to it. It has been a long day today, and I'm exhausted. A shout out also to Jack, KD4IZ, for keeping me up to date on this.

Well, I am glad we got that one figured out.??I do recall when we first started using the versions with the weather reporting that we had to remove the s so the ulr started with http:??instead of https:, but this was the first time I ran into the problem with the Maps.??I usually used only the ¡°base¡± map from openstbreetmaps, but it has stopped working with or without the s.??
