Re: Common DRAT Reflector URL

Ed, with every enhancement, you make the page better.? Thanks. ?

BTW, on the present page you have provided info on how to enter a reflector but there is no button to get into the enter mode. ?

Also, many of us distinguish between a reflector on D-Star and a RATflector on D-RATS.

And I am glad to see our good friends in El Paso and their RATflector listed.

Ed,

I don't have any objections to put in the AB9FT/KC9SJY Ratflector(s) posted in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Some of it might be incorrect, but I will let you know, but its fine to post what is present which is probably operable.

Re: Is AMBE chip needed for D-RATS?

There are a LOT of GMSK boards out there though a lot of them are moving away from plain RS232 serial ports just because no one has them anymore. Anyway, maybe the Moencomm boards will work:

From the computer API view, it seems to look like a repeater node, so by running a ratflector on that computer linked to that software, an unmodified d-rats client should just work.

The site is back up. They had a power failure over the weekend.

Unfortunately some of the products that would be of direct interest for this project do not appear to be available in kit or assembled form.

is a GMSK modem with a standard serial port. Should be easy to write a program to translate from a ratflector i/o to what gets transferred to and from the radio.

I can not find this product for sale though. Full schematics and such are available on the site.

is a re-implementation of the original GMSK node adapter. One modification of interest here is that it presents an RS-232 data port that outputs the same data stream as is available from the serial port of an Icom D-star radio.

I also can not find this product for sale either. Full schematices, etc are available on the site.

What they do have is the mini-hotspot, but that is missing the serial port and apparently needs a special USB driver, which limits it to Linux and Windows at the present time.

I can find other versions of that mini-hotspot for sale in the same price range. It seems that if I go the hardware route, a Raspberry Pi based solution is currently looking the most attractive.

That's a copy of Tom Sailer's Soundmodem.? Yes, that looks pretty good for a software based GMSK modem!

I found that setting under the QSL message type list. Using the GPS message.

10 Minutes seems to be keeping the internet connection alive.

Two fixes are needed for long term:

1. The d-rats program needs to be fixed to detect the disconnection and possibly just reconnect after notifying the user.

2. A keep alive message needs to be set up between the ratflector and the d-rats program that does not get relayed by the ratflector.

Re: MAPPING SOFTWARE/STATIC MAPS

Interesting you should bring this up this morning. I started the Map Download Utility about an hour ago, entered the lat long info, set it to a 10.6 mile diameter, hit start and it's sat at "Downloading (0%)" ever since. So...questions:

1. I assume this is downloading over the internet connection - and not waiting for me to start D-Rats and connect to something else.

2. I note that for lat/long you must enter the degrees followed by a space (it inserts the degree symbol), then enter minutes followed by a space (it inserts the ' symbol), and finally seconds followed by a space and enter the " symbol. Could this NOT be downloading because of an unreported error in the way I've entered the lat/long information?

3. Should I have expectations for download times longer than the last hour or so sitting at 0%?

Thanks!
Bob
