Re: Linking Ratflectors

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this.? My laptop died on Wednesday afternoon, and I spent the evening trying to revive it.? Before I say more on this I would like to get to my setup and document exactly what I was able to do.?

?

Great idea to send out a QST before taking the ratflector down.?

Are you using a different callsign for the 2nd ratflector instance? I would think using the same callsign would be very close to the loop John warns against.

?

I take down occasionally for system updates. I send out a QST stating the system is gong offline for a few minutes (or hours) for updates. That way the users know to reconnect after the system reboots. The ratflector automatically restarts as a system service after reboot.

Re: Linking Ratflectors

You need to use a different call sign. You cant get on using the same call sign from different locations. My raspberry pi that runs my ratflector is KC2OON-E (E for experimental).
My laptop is plain old KC2OON. My work computer is KC2OON-W.?

I take this a step further. I never want to take my primary ratflector
down. I've noticed if I take the ratflector down to add a link the
D-RATS clients connected to it don't always reconnect and the user may
not know they are kicked off.

So, I have a primary ratflector that stays up all the time, and my users
connect to it. If I want to link different ratflectors I start a new
instance of the ratflector app and link it to my primary ratflector and
any others I want to link in (including via RF). If the linking
ratflector goes down it doesn't kick users off the primary ratflector.

Re: Linking Ratflectors

When you say "?I start a new?instance of the ratflector app and link it to my primary ratflector" are you running the repeater program twice on one computer or two different computers?
I understand the concept but didn't know you could run more than one instance of the repeater program on one computer.

I searched conversations here to make sure I'm not repeating anyone.

Has anyone succeeded in linking two different ratflectors together not over RF?

What I mean is ratflector 1 is in town A, ratflector 2 is in town B.?

When someone uses ratflector 1 it also shows up on ratflector 2.

I saw on the D-STAR yahoo group guys did it by using firewall rules in their routers. They could use mail, chat and file sharing over both ratflector networks. Both of them are no longer HAMS and I requested membership in that yahoo group over 3 months ago and never got approved.

We do the same thing in my county. ?We have a ratflector set up on the internet, and we use it weekly during our nets. In the event of an emcomm activation we attach a radio to it. ?The operators keep using it as they always have except with RF instead of internet. ?

That is why I set this one up, for our emcomm group to use. We have DSTAR 2M, 440, and 1.2 GHZ repeaters and?we?just wanted to have an online D-RATS to free up the frequencies. We will probably use it for our practice nets. And hey I am one of those old timers, but I take no offense at the moniker, if the shoe fits...

OK thanks, just sometimes I get addled and need to settle down and think about what I have done and what needs to happen. Until this thread came up I had pretty much put the drats project out of my mind.

Thanks Again

There you go. No problem. The guys on here really helped me out when I needed it. I thought I would just pass along what I learned if it worked to spare you the headache.

Ok. So you're saying you can get into it from outside the home network but not from inside it?

This may be stupid but in the repeater program is "accept incoming connections" checked as well?

Did you give the Raspberry a static IP address?
If not look up how to do so and get that done.
