Re: Helpful Documents [5]

Thanks much and I do that with each up grade. The suggestion Pat had seemed work ?but now back at the computer and nothing keys it now as before,

I think the last uninstall/reinstall was a couple of days ago. I always do an uninstall before I install upgrades.

More fun with radios ?HI.

Thanks much,

73 de rolan w3fdk

Re: id880 serial usb

Patrick,

Thanks much, I'll try that. ?The latest scenario I have tried that 'seems' to work is to :

1. leave radio on and plugged into the usb port.
2. shutdown computer, ?no restart, shut down
3. restart computer?
4. run ?drats

I'm off to see the wizard of Oz (device manager) ?and change the USB serial port to 1 and see what that does.

Ok, ?back from changing USB port to com1 and typed in com1 in drats preferences set up and it 'seems' to work. ?I disconnected the USB cable and plugged it back in and it would not tx but I closed ?d-rats and restarted and it seems to work all the time.?

Thanks much Pat !!?

Now to find someone to get on refl 15C to see if I can go thru our local 2m DSTAR and work the digi ?reflector. I will have to set the repeater to refl 15C so I will have to coordinate .

If anyone is interested ?you an email me ? at ?w3fdk@... or rolan.clark@....

The arrl one is probably easier.

Thanks again Pat

Rolan, do a complete clean uninstall and reinstall, I had the same problem back some time ago and that was the only way to clear it up

Best reflectors for d-rats

Hi all,
I'm using d-rats via RF to connect to various reflectors, but so far I have not seen much activity. Does anybody have any suggestions for the best reflectors or repeaters to connect to for d-rats? I'm mostly interested in testing it for emcomm purposes.

Thanks!

Re: id880 serial usb

Hi Rolan,
Thanks for joining the group.?
Go into the device manager and try to move your USB to serial converter to the lowest possible port number. When you go to change it in D-RATS, type in the port number rather than selecting it from the list. Finally, exit D-RATS and restart. The D-RATS program may have to see the changed config file when it starts up.

Good luck and 73 de Patrick

Re: IRCddb to Raspberry Pi

You must run ?the D-RATS repeater (server) on the R_Pi. Tick the "Accept Incoming Connections" box and click the On button. The default port number is 9000. The D-RATS client should now be able to connect to 192.168.0.4

Re: Helpful Documents [5]

Thanks much and I do have those documents. ?Yesterday no matter what I did the ?ID880H ? would key , today, no matter what sequence I start the program, insert USB cable , connect radio , it won't key the tx. Kind of an interesting, frustrating problem.

It worked all the time with my now defunct ?Dell B-130 .

If I find the answer I'll post here.

Thanks,?

id880 serial usb

I have a new computer with win 8.1 usb to serial to the 2.5mm data jack and ptt doesn't always work using d-rats. I can't find any ?turn on scenario that works. Once it worked ?the time it was on and after closing and restarting it, sometime worked ?once but most times it doesn't work.

Any ideas appreciated,

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this.? My laptop died on Wednesday afternoon, and I spent the evening trying to revive it.? Before I say more on this I would like to get to my setup and document exactly what I was able to do.?

?

Great idea to send out a QST before taking the ratflector down.?

Are you using a different callsign for the 2nd ratflector instance? I would think using the same callsign would be very close to the loop John warns against.

?

I take down occasionally for system updates. I send out a QST stating the system is gong offline for a few minutes (or hours) for updates. That way the users know to reconnect after the system reboots. The ratflector automatically restarts as a system service after reboot.

Re: Linking Ratflectors

You need to use a different call sign. You cant get on using the same call sign from different locations. My raspberry pi that runs my ratflector is KC2OON-E (E for experimental).
My laptop is plain old KC2OON. My work computer is KC2OON-W.?

I take this a step further. I never want to take my primary ratflector
down. I've noticed if I take the ratflector down to add a link the
D-RATS clients connected to it don't always reconnect and the user may
not know they are kicked off.

So, I have a primary ratflector that stays up all the time, and my users
connect to it. If I want to link different ratflectors I start a new
instance of the ratflector app and link it to my primary ratflector and
any others I want to link in (including via RF). If the linking
ratflector goes down it doesn't kick users off the primary ratflector.

Re: Linking Ratflectors

When you say "?I start a new?instance of the ratflector app and link it to my primary ratflector" are you running the repeater program twice on one computer or two different computers?
I understand the concept but didn't know you could run more than one instance of the repeater program on one computer.

Has anyone succeeded in linking two different ratflectors together not over RF?

What I mean is ratflector 1 is in town A, ratflector 2 is in town B.?

When someone uses ratflector 1 it also shows up on ratflector 2.

I saw on the D-STAR yahoo group guys did it by using firewall rules in their routers. They could use mail, chat and file sharing over both ratflector networks. Both of them are no longer HAMS and I requested membership in that yahoo group over 3 months ago and never got approved.

We do the same thing in my county. ?We have a ratflector set up on the internet, and we use it weekly during our nets. In the event of an emcomm activation we attach a radio to it. ?The operators keep using it as they always have except with RF instead of internet. ?

That is why I set this one up, for our emcomm group to use. We have DSTAR 2M, 440, and 1.2 GHZ repeaters and?we?just wanted to have an online D-RATS to free up the frequencies. We will probably use it for our practice nets. And hey I am one of those old timers, but I take no offense at the moniker, if the shoe fits...
