Re: I can only see my own station on the maps
Maurizio, thank you so much for continuing to develop the D-Rats application. It's actually an excellent application and when I discovered it I was soon excited by other colleagues from our local club to install and configure it...
But we came across an error that somewhat limits the use of the application - the display of your stations on the Map!
?
Conditions:
I'm using the D-Rats Repeater currently connected only to 2 other repeaters on the Internet network.
However I did tests without the local repeater, connecting D-Rats directly to both providers of the Internet network and the symptoms are the same!
My system is linux buster over Raspberry pi 4; d-rats 0.3.10 beta 3 and Python 2.7.16, GTK 2.24.32, PyGTK 2.24.0, LibXML using 0.5 KB
?
1. when "Request position/Request all positions" is done, nothing appears in the "Event Log" tab and the Map only shows the position of my callsign, however in the ??esrepeater log doing "tail -f repeater.log" with you see that stations that are online report their positions, they are just not interpreted by D-Rats and, as a consequence, nothing appears on the Map!
?
Here is the excerpt from repeater.log attached
?
?
2. I leave here a small suggestion for improvement, if it were possible to implement - sending files in QSTs
?
On my packet radio system I send APRS beacons 10 minutes before the satellite AOS on my locator.
The event generates a small text file with only 1 line. This file is read for example by BPQ every minute and sent to the network.
With D-Rats I couldn't do the same, because when this file doesn't exist D-Rats gives an error!
Will it be possible to make this small change so that if there is no file configured in QST, D-Rats will ignore it and continue counting the time without giving an error?
?
Thank you very much Maurizio

Thank you, Patrick! Those instructions should?be part of the standard manual. Or did I miss it somewhere already posted? Honestly though I hope someone smarter than me figures out a way to make it all work without adding another server, radio, cables(s), and TNC. Especially if it's all sitting in the same room! --Dan 510-305-9949 I promise to do more for social justice and economic equality; to engage, reflect, and change. Re: ID-51A with USB RTS05 cable
Here is how you do that: Run an instance of the D-RATS client on the same computer as the Ratflector. Make a network connection to localhost port 9000. Go to Preferences>Email Access, Add a user with a callsign of * and set Access to Both. This instance of D-RATS can now act as a mail server by using the "Send Via" option when creating an e-mail. The best way I have found to implement an RF connection is to locate the Ratflector computer at a repeater site and make a serial data connection between the computer and a D-STAR radio. In the Ratflector configuration, add a device and make it a serial connection to the comm port where the radio is connected. If you want an AX.25 connection, use a TNC-X (MFJ-1270x) and create a KISS TNC connection in the Ratflector. Good luck and 73 Patrick (N3TSZ)

Re: ID-51A with USB RTS05 cable
You can automate the ping process by setting Preferences>Messages>Station TTL to 600 seconds (10 minutes). When a message is places in the outbox, if the target station is not on the station list, or more than 10 minutes old, D-RATS will ping the station before attempting to send the message. I am a newer D-RATS user and quite enjoy the program.? I was going to start exploring to see what it will take to get this application to run on a recent version of MacOS, but before I do I figured I should ask:? Re: GPS not locked
Double check the following under your GPS settings in Preferences.??Make sure you are telling D-Rats the right Comm Port that the GPS unit is connected to and then make sure the baud rate for the unit is correct.??Some GPS units operate at 4800 baud and others at 9600.??If the wrong rate is input, D-Rats won¡¯t be able to talk to the GPS.??I have run GPS/Glonas units, the little white dongles, on my set-up and they work every time.??Those run at 9600.??I have also used mag mount GPS receivers with equal success.??
Another problem, if you often unplug and replug USB cables a lot of times the Comm Port assignments will get changed on Windows machines.??Today, the GPS is showing it is on COMM 5, but disconnect a few cables and now Windows says it is on COMM 3.??Go to the Device Manager and check to see which Comm Port the GPS is registered on. GPS not locked
I was hoping maybe someone might be able to help. I've tried without success to get the map feature to work with an external GPS unit. In the lower right hand corner of the map page it says "GPS not locked" and my coordinates show as zeros. I'm currently running D-Rats v0.3.9 on a Windows 10 Home (64-bit) system. The GPS unit works with windows and all of the other apps. Interestingly, when I monitor the status of the satellites being tracked by the GPS unit, it shows no fix while D-Rats is running. Then immediate upon closing D-Rats, it works again... gets a fix and shows real-time tracking data. Reproducible every time. On a side note, I've been unable to make the external GPS feature work with D-Rats on my RPi either. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance
