Re: Raspberry PI GURU NEEDED
Mike,
You are right, the voltage level out of the Pi's UART are 0-3.3V and need to be converted to RS232 levels to be useful.? .? RS232 Level converter kits using the Maxim max3232 chip can be found from a variety of sources, online, search "raspbery pi rs232".? A ready to go cable assembly can be found on eBay: I use a .? As you can see there are many ways to skin this cat. Also the serial port needs to be configured and the user granted permission to use the hardware.? The covers the use of the UART. 73, Ed |

Fedora 18 Linux D-RATS Binary and Source RPMs Available
Fedora Users,
You've probably heard by now, Fedora 18 was released a few days ago. If you're running Fedora 18 and would like to get the latest d-rats_daily for Fedora 18, Fedora Linux RPMs for the latest daily build are now available in the KK7DS Ham-Apps yum repository. To add the repository as a software source, please follow these instructions: For those who don't wish to use the repository, or who may want to build from source themselves the RPMs are available for download here: Enjoy and 73, Mike, N0SO |

D-StarQuery D-RATS plugin
All,
There is a function within all Icom D-STAR repeaters that utilizes low-speed data called "D-StarQuery". You can find it as a part of the "D-Star Monitor (DSM)" and its located on /opt/dstarmon directory. Essentially, it is where you can send some commands (queries) using low speed data and access information from a repeater. I found the following website that describes it also briefly and shows how it operates. That website is the following: . I ran across the following e-mail at and decided to attempt adding this on to D-RATS. << Hi OMs, Happy New Year to all. I've written a little "contrib" for D-RATS, a plugin who allow you to perform a DStarQuery server for D-RATS networks!!! The small server listen on 9100 port and every prefixed by ?* chat message is analized to match with commands in the .ini file. You can define commands as you need. See the examples. Python source code and infos are in . I've tested it on a linux box only, windows users please report errors or defects. Comments, requests and suggests are welcome! If you modify the source, please give a feedback to me. 73s de Leo, IZ5FSA I 've downloaded the software and it is now running right now on the KC9SJY D-RATS station. It doesn't require a D-STAR repeater (ratflector) to run. You simply run the command, as: python d-rats_query 127.0.0.1 9100 <D-RATS port> (Not sure what the use for 9100 is and whether multiple D-RATS ports can be used) Use of D-RATS ratflector is not required but can be utilized with this. Let me know by e-mail if you would like to try it on the system here, otherwise, bring up D-RATS and watch for the QST for the information. I haven't had any time in setting anything up, so, if you access anything by using this, it will be Italian. Any questions about this, please feel free to ask. 73 Josh, AB9FT |

Radio settings for ID-31A/51A
For thos with new ID-51A handhelds, here are the menu settings for D-RATS. I believe they will be the sam for the 31A, but someone please verify as I don't have a 31A.
GPS>GPS TX Mode = OFF, GPS>GPS Auto TX = OFF, DV Set>DV Data TX = Auto By the way, I am using the RT Systems USB-RTS05 cable as the shell of the 2.5mm plug is very slim and fits completely in the data jack. John WB4QDX |

Private Chat Tab or Window - How to close
I tried to set up a "Private Chat" with a friend on D-Rats the other night just to see how it works. I never did connect with him so I tried to close the windoe or chat session. There doesn't appear to be a way to close the Private Chat tab created. Now the "Tab" with my firends call sign just stays there in the chat window. How do I close it? I checked the manual and other than describing what it is, there doesn't appear to be any details on how to use it or, in my case, shut it down.
Thoughts? |

Private Chat and Groups are two types of filters. To remove it, select it, then click on Remove Filter on the toolbar at the top of the chat window. Patrick (N3TSZ) From: "kk4lac@..." Configuring d-Rats for a Reflector?
Occasionally I see someone in the Chat tab say "XYZ Net on REF30C" or "AB1ABC is explaining the meaning of life on REF004C". So how to I get to REF30C or REF004C (which I assume are "reflectors") in D-Rats? Or can I? I've checked the on-line documentation but don't see it. I've looked on the DSTAR pages and don't see anything jump out about how to navigate to a specific reflector within d-Rats (which suggests to it's not possible - but I don't want to miss something). Any suggestions or a URL to the documentation?
Thanks! KK4LAC Bob |

Re: Configuring d-Rats for a Reflector?
Dear Bob, ? One way would be to use the low speed data capability on D-Star radios and to use the RF segment capability in D-RATS.? If you have a D-Star radio with a cable connected to your PC with D-RATS running, you can enable in your Preferences a connection to your D-Star radio (and other radios also).? Once enabled. your chat (where you must select your D-Star radio as outgoing in the lower left), messaging and file transfer are all done over the D-Star radio.? And if you have connected your D-Star radio to another D-Star Repeater or a Reflector, voila.? It works at 1200 bps.

Re: Configuring d-Rats for a Reflector?
Thanks John. I think it's as I suspected. I need to get there through RF. d-Rats on a PC through the ratflector by itself won't get to the reflectors. No problem (assuming I can get to DOC, BTI, or SBA from Waleska). 880H will be here tomorrow or Thursday. Tom KG4VUB sent me a sample icf file and I'll also download one of the "Localized Memory downloads" from dstarinfo.com to get set up.
