Well, guess what ? ?It is indeed possible using the USB connection on the back of the 9100.
My problem was in specifying the correct PORT. While configuring the radio, it will give you more than one, but only one of those works, in this case PORT7. ?Once I did that, the PTT could be controlled from the keyboard.
