Re: CPK-3 SMD pre-assembled
The trick to mounting a SMT IC like that is to tack solder one of the pins when wiggling it into place.? Once it's straight on the board, you want to tack a second pin.? Ugly is fine.? Then generously apply liquid flux (this is critical) at all pins.? Then from the opposite side of the tacks flow a ball of solder down the chip.? Do the same for the other side of the chip, redoing the tacks.? If you bridge pins when rolling the ball of solder down the pins, then go back and pull the solder outwards from the chip.? If that still doesn't work, more liquid flux and solder wick will fix that.
It's actually pretty easy.? Probably easier than soldering a DIP IC once you have done one. Clean of the flux with Naptha (Zippo lighter fluid) or similar after soldering.? The other way is to use paste solder, a stencil and hot air.? If done correctly that works great too.? But this isn't hand soldering.? I encourage everyone to learn how to do this.? Liquid flux, my good people.? It's your friend when doing SMT work!? If you can't focus anymore like me at almost 55 close in, then also get a microscope with a screen on it.? Verify that the chip is on straight before rolling the solder ball down both sides.? ?Inspect when you are done. It'll look like a wave machine did it if you follow these instructions.? CPK-3 SMD pre-assembled
开云体育Guys, During the holiday, I have prepared some CPK-3 KT Receiver kits with SMD part pre-assembled. For those who are reluctant to solder SMD parts, you can consider this kit at 16 USD (14.5 USD + 1.5 USD) each including tracked air shipping. You can directly PayPal to rongxh@... and leave your ship-to address. Thanks, Adam |
Re: New year of dragon
开云体育Tim,Good luck. Take care not to short the 5V to GND as the on board 5V regulator does not have the short circuit protection. Don’t touch any of the pins of Arduino. Build along the modified parts. Thanks, Adam 在 2024年2月8日,06:49,Tim Trombley <ttrombley83@...> 写道:

One of the local school teachers contacted me for a possible class using the CPK-3 kits. He said, it would be good to bring the kit assembly back home after class, and it is so useful and meaningful. Thanks, Adam 在 2024年2月4日,00:20,DL1SER <dl1ser@...> 写道: |

12V on 5V test point, please contact me for solutions offline. Thanks, Adam On 2024/2/3 18:14, Tim Trombley wrote:

Good News, a new Articel (from me) about the cpk-3 will be published in August 2024. I think the publishers of the CQ-DL like your KITs. This year we have the year of education and? young Hams in DL. The cpk-3 is ideal for newcomers :). You really did a good job. 73 de Matt, DL1SER 73 de Am 02.02.2024 um 02:29 schrieb Adam Rong: Guys, |
Re: Step #3 help from assembly manual ADX-S kit
Adam, Yes the light on the nano is lit no problem there. Ok, like to know how the 5v regulator isn't working, followed the assembly manual to the letter, so guess I'll have to see if can unsolder nano, or use the 5v regulator like the link showed, but not sure on how it works, only connection was ground and 12v, showed nothing else. Re: Step #3 help from assembly manual ADX-S kit
开云体育Hi Tim, There are two regulators on the Arduino Nano board. One is 5V and the other is 3.3V. It looks like your 5V regulator is damaged, but 3.3V regulator is
okay. With 12V on C1, can you still see LED is lit on the Arduino
Nano module? You should be able to proceed with the building still, but you only can power the radio with USB port now. The RF output will be limited to a few hundreds of mW. The fix is to replace the module, or you can try to add an
external regulator like this blog if it applies to your situation.

Up to testing step #3, testing voltage on + pad of C1, and I get 12v, not 4.93, but I do get 3.41v of left pin of R1, is something wrong here? |

Re: Drift on a new ADX build
Adam, if you come up with some sort of TXCO daughter board, I would likely take ten of them, honestly.? I have a lot of projects that use si5351 boards and have long wondered why this hasn't been available.? One other option that I have considered is a 2.5x multiplier chip (NB3N502) feeding the si5351 to use an OCXO (lots are available as pulls from China cheaply) that could also be used.? YES, you can actually feed in 10 MHz into the si5351a and have it lock, but it is out of spec to do so.? 25 MHz or 27 MHz is considered standard for the si5351a... 27 MHz TXCOs are easier to find in the US for some reason..
Thanks for the quick shipping on my adx-s and cpk3.? The cpk3 is already built and works as expected.? 16 days door to door (for those who asked) with most of the delays on the US side.? China post tracking is scary good...USPS is a blackhole... I will try to post a picture or two later of the assembled receiver.? It might be a few weeks before I tackle the ADX-S.? :)? Fred W0FMS/7 |
