Send Email from PRO4/CP4?
2
Hello all, I have been using a Send mail V02 module on port 2525. But I am being told that port2525 is a security risk and the network guys we work with started blocking both 25 and 2525 so I need an alternate way to send emails to our team for things like high Temperatures. What are you guys using that is secure to send emails from a CP4/PRO4 ? Thank you, Jon

Garage overhead doors are a common entry point into a home for burglars. With this in mind, a smart garage controller that is integrated with an overall smart home, can provide both convenience and added security. My latest article looks at several smart garage door controller systems and their integration into the smart home. You can find the article here: https://restechtoday.com/integrating-modern-overhead-garage-doors-with-your-smart-home/ For those interested in earlier articles that I've written, you can find those here: https://restechtoday.com/author/jaybasen/ For these interested in even earlier content that I wrote, you can find it all here though older content has formatting issues due to a transfer from blogspot to wordpress. https://topicsinhomeautomation.wordpress.com/ Thanks

TSR-310 Wifi Connections
10
Hi All Is there a way to REMOTELY (VPN) change which SSID a TSR is connected to? I've looked in Console help, the ToolBox function list and the web page. Could it actually be that Crestron expects me to drive 3.5 hours one-way to change the SSID on a remote??? (Probably...:( ) TIA

Doorbell C4 Chime Integrate or replace? Crestron Home
2
I am in the process of replacing some older Control 4 systems with Crestron Home using the CP4-R processsor and other goodies as required. One stumbling block is a few of these clients have the Control 4 video chime doorbell installed and the clients do not want to lose the integration with the distributed audio system as far as ducking and ringing through the audio distribution matrix. Does anyone out there have a recommendation on how to integrate the chime doorbell with Crestron Home and DM-NAX? If not, is there a replacement chime doorbell from another vendor that would? Thanks in advance.

Tracking active lobe in Shure MXA910 and MXA920
2
I searched this forum and couldn't find any info; forgive me if I missed it. We have used audio levels to trigger camera presets many times. Of course, discreet mics work pretty well for this, ceiling mics not so well. The Shure MXA mics seem to have the potential to make this simple, but I haven't found the secret yet. Viewing the lobes in Shure Designer, I can see that the correct/expected lobe is activated immediately - it appears to be flawless. But Shure's command strings don't offer a simple Get Beam Activated. Instead, they offer "Get X-Axis Beam Steering, Get Y-Axis, and Get Beam Height (Z-Axis), all measured in centimeters from the mic. I don't need, and can't use, this extreme level of detail and the resultant flood of signals to parse. Extron offers a way to pre-define a 3-dimensional cube by defining the X, Y, and Z coordinates of its imaginary diagonal corners in a space, and then notify me when the X, Y, Z coordinates being reported fall within a defined cube. This is a tedious and sometimes confusing process, but it seems to work. However, even then, I only get a notice that a zone has been activated; it does not report that the activation has ceased - which is a critical piece of information. It seems to me, though, that this requires me to re-invent the wheel, when that parsing and comparing of data points is clearly already happening within either the mic itself or the Shure Designer software, because I see the lobes firing (or highlighting) accurately in the software. It seems that when I drag a lobe to a specific coverage area, that is graphically defining the 3-dimensional space, and Shure is already calculating which lobe a given audio source falls in. Why not simply make that info available via command string? i.e. is a lobe active?... which one? Will someone please show me what a dolt I am, or possibly point me to a module or other useful solution?

SIMPL Module Input Signals
3
Is there any way inside a SIMPL module to know if any of it's input signals are connected in the root program? For example I have a module with 10 input signals and 10 output feedback signals. I want all of the feedback signals to go high at the same time but only for the signals that have connected inputs. Is this possible?

CrestronConsole.Printline
2
#programming
#simplsharp
I have a weird situation where one method in a simpl# module won¡¯t write to the console. for argument sake. Public string test() { CrestronConsole.PrintLine(¡°Hello World¡±); Return (¡°Success"); } I know that the method is being successfully called from simpl+ because it returns the string and that is seen by simpl+. But the Hello World doesn¡¯t show in toolbox. the strange thing is that every other method in the simpl# code will show message when printed to the console.

HR-310s battery corrosion

I am having a rash of HR-310s that the batteries are corroding within a very short time period, before the batteries die. This causes the remotes to not power up from batteries. Anyone else seeing this?

Intercom recommendations - Not 2N or Doorbird
6
Hi all. Just wondering if anyone knows of any IP intercoms/access control systems out there that might integrate well with Crestron? I currently use 2N IP Verso (gen1) and a couple of access control units (keypads) which do everything I want in terms of integrating with my Crestron but the thing that is killing me is the video quality of the door camera. Its horrible. Low res, grainy and unusable at night. I am also not a big fan of the 2N licensing structure and having to pay extra for this and extra for that and even just the subscription cost to have it call our phones. Ultimately I wanted 2N for the ability for the intercom to be used on our TSW panels but as it turns out, we just dont use that feature. When the doorbell rings, one of us has answered it on our phone before getting anywhere near a TSW! Im looking for something that can provide a higher quality image, with the ability to add access control units to the system, and there are a few options out there, but I need the ability to control the units IO ports via an API through Crestron at the same time. I use this for door locking/unlocking from Crestron and also door open/close monitoring among a few other things. Hikvision do a very similar system to the 2N which ticks all the boxes, but as far as I know, their API is non existent so I would lose Crestron control. Have also seen another brand called Akuvox which looks interesting and they seem to have control support for their devices, but I am just unfamiliar with the brand. I could always upgrade to the 2N IP Verso 2.0 but again, their prices are ridiculous and then add on the required automation licenses and ongoing subscription costs for each mobile device and it becomes a rather unattractive option. Any thoughts or recommendations? Or am I looking for a fairytale project that just doesnt exist in the price range of common folk?

TCL display IP control
3
Does anyone have the specs on how to control a TCL display via IP? It's their new 115" display. I can turn it on via WOL, but I can't find anything else on it's IP control. I've spoken to their tech support, and tier two took all my contact information and I never heard back. All I need is power off and inputs. TIA

DM-NVX-360 - USB Routing (NUX)
8
Hello Crestron Family, I have an NVX system here where we are now trying to implement NUX (USB-Over-IP) as well. The layout looks a little something like this: IFP110 Viewsonic Smartboard USB-B -> USB-A DM-NVX-360 Decoder -> Aruba CX-6100 PoE switch -> DM-NVX-360 Encoder USB-C -> USB-A Client OFE Computer Basically we are trying to get a ViewSonic touch screen display to act as another mouse on the client's computer via NVX USB routing. I have the NVX routing working fine and I manually route USB via layer 2 transport mode, and both NVX-360's say "Paired" and act like the USB is connected and will work, but my touch screen is not controlling the computer on the far end at all. I get the same reslult with layer 3 transport mode as well. I have tried both the HOST port and HID port on the touch screens decoder, but I get the same result. "Paired" but doesn't control anything. Perhaps someone has done this before and can tell me what I am missing? Thanks in advance for any input. -- Stephen H Programmer / Installation Technician

Smart motorized shades are a valuable addition to a smart home. However, a consumer has only had two choices when choosing shades: 1) Off-the-shelf shades that have limited options and typically won't fit your window. 2) Custom shades that include a wide range of fabric choices, are custom cut to exactly fit your window, and come with a premium price tag. SwitchBot's new Roller Shade bridges the gap between these 2 choices. While SwitchBot currently only offers their Roller Shade with a single fabric choice, the shade can be custom fit by the homeowner to exactly fit their window. My latest article looks at this new shade option for smart home owners in detail. You can find the article here: https://restechtoday.com/reviewing-the-switchbot-smart-roller-shades/ For those interested in earlier articles that I've written, you can find those here: https://restechtoday.com/author/jaybasen/ For these interested in even earlier content that I wrote, you can find it all here though older content has formatting issues due to a transfer from blogspot to wordpress. https://topicsinhomeautomation.wordpress.com/ Thanks

Sensibo and crestron stopped working

I am hoping that @jbasen will see this. I have been using your sensibo module for a few years and it has been working fantastically well. Today the module has started erroring. Seems to be an SSL issue. Alternativce SACN module
7
Hi, I?m using the ?SACN SenderDirectSockets¡± module from the SIMPL device database to control an Enttec Ethergate Artnet/SACN to DMX gateway. In general, it works. However, it seems as if the module sends out all 512 channels, even if I change only one of them. This is very unfortunate, as I?m using an Enttec S-Play mini to send out prerecorded scenes to my fixtures via the Ethergate in parallel to the Crestron processor. Is there any alternative to SACN module (Artnet would be OK as well) available that sends out only the values for the DMX channel that has actually changed? Thanks, Thorsten

TST-1080 (html5 Construct) Subpage and text punch-through
2
In VT-Pro, overlaying text or a subpage over a button enables you to interact with controls underneath. This no longer appears to be the case in Construct. I have two instances in this particular project: * I have a footer menu subpage with a clear background - I'm using a Div (border) to form a background image with a button acting as a tab to hide or show this menu |--tab--| |--------------| | menu | |--------------| The area each side of the tab is clear. One of the buttons in the menu slides up a wireless mic list from the bottom of the page (under the menu) and then appears on the main page. The bottom mic in the list cannot be controlled because the menu clear space sits over it. I can't change the UI as this is a pre-agreed UI based on an existing TSW VTP project and I'm not allowed to deviate. * I have a button in a widget list that has 3 text objects over it containing event information This takes the form of: number - event name - event time Placing the text straight on the button just looks like shit as the placement gets messed up with the List header and it's impossible to get the text to line up correctly. In VTP, this works perfectly, in Construct, it appears that you can't pass a press event through a text object. Anyone know if it's possible to enable press-through?
