Pretty Toolbox splash

Marc Nield

Is it me or is that new, pretty Toolbox startup splash more annoying than useful? You start an upload or a compile and then think "oh I'll start Toolbox" then you can't see what's going on for as long as it takes Toolbox to start coz the damn splash hogs the screen and won't go away.

Like I said, maybe I am doing something wrong, but if I am not I can't believe I am alone in my grumpiness.

Ugh, no, it's terrible. I used to open and close Toolbox on a regular basis as I needed it, now I leave it open simply to avoid the Splash screen.

I thought the SIMPL Windows splash was annoying.

This is exponentially worse.

Clearly the people that implemented this thinking it was a good idea have never tried to use more than one application at a time on their computers.

As my computer has grown older, I find that I appreciate an acknowledgement that the program actually started after I clicked the icon.

Nothing more annoying than after waiting 5 minutes winding up with 3 instances of Toolbox open...

Looks great on my dedicated Toolbox laptop. It's not like I need to do
anything else at the same time...

I agree. Before this Toolbox would just sit there not moving, and we just had to hope it was working. Now at least there is action to reassure us.

For me the initial load with the splash screen takes several seconds - but if I close it afterwards, it reopens in 1 second or so each time - I have it set to not open a default workspace or connect to anything on startup, maybe that's the difference.

Windows 7 64-bit SP1, Intel i5-2320 3GHz, 6GB RAM; I was also running AutoCAD, Firefox, Outlook, Acrobat and several background processes at the same time during this "test." Time to upgrade?

They should allow toolbox to minimize to the task tray. This way it can stay open fir as long as I want without hogging active resources. Kind of like outlook

Slow isn't the problem... having it always on top is the problem. At least
with SIMPL Windows I can load it in the background while I'm surfing the
yahoo group. (or more commonly, start 3-5 instances right after reboot and
then be ready to go until one crashes...)
