Ipad App port 41794 lock up

Hi all, sorry if this is a bit long winded

Got a strange one that TB don¡¯t seem to be able to help with. Resi project with 20 ipads as the only form of control (I know not ideal but out of my hands) the problem occurs when there is no client activity for around 2-3 weeks, the ipads randomly seem to ¡°lock up¡± [sic].

We have been trying various things for months now to identify the problem and as we have similar systems out there working well it was a weird one.

We have narrowed it down to the fact that the app does not ¡°lock up¡± but actually only sends commands not receive them, so page flips and feedback are not happening so the app appears to have locked up.

So, after 2-3 weeks of not using the app the app stops receiving information from the processor, restart the app and all good!

I am sending a staggered serial string ¡°HELLO¡± to each ipad every 3 hours to try and keep comms open but no joy

TB have had all the code and cannot emulate the problem, although I doubt they left it for 2-3 weeks.

So I conclude that the issue is with the app, which when not used for 2-3 weeks only allows 1-way communication on port 41794.

?

Any ideas, or has anyone seen similar?

?

Thanks for taking the time to read this

?

Iain

Great...

? We're about to troubleshoot the same thing..?

I had a client with the same problem. She finally got tired of it and bought touch panels.

Hi:

1. Which app?
2. What processor?

I see the same problem on commercials. ? Ipads left on the APP for a long time stop responding. ? Some somtimes wake up, but there is a long delay, apx 5 to 10 seconds. ? Others don't. ? Force close and reload is the only way to fix and it works straight away.

never raised with TB, but will do now. ?Do you have a ticket number I can ask them to link it too. ?May e we can add i bit more pressure.

Steve

Hello Iain,
? We have had fits with the iPads locking up in commercial applications.? Typically in systems using Crestron VC4 processors.? We always use secure 41796 connections.? Our Service Engineer recently discovered in a large facility that the iPads that were "locking up" did not have a Default Router set in the IP settings.? He set a Default Router and all the iPads started working.
Just a thought.?

Hi Doug,

Interesting, would be good to know if after 2/3 weeks this solves your problems as my experience says it won't.? ? ?I double-checked one of our installations today when I saw your message and the DHCP IP/DNS/GATEWAY / router settings were all good and I'm sure the others are fine too.? ?I have seen this on multiple sites and the only common denominator is if they are left unused for some time as highlighted by Iain.

Would love to get to the bottom of this as I've given up trying other than force close and reload.? ?;-)

Yes, Steve,? I'm anxious to see if that fixes it too!? Consumer devices in a Commercial environment can generate headaches!

This is not uncommon.. and has been a issue since day 1.. I don't think it is a Crestron issue as if you use the IP ID with an xPanel it works and if you close the App and re-establish the connection it usually will work again without intervention.? I have found Client education and training on how to resolve it stops the service calls since Blue is not going down the path of tablet style.. (ughh Thanks for The rebranded Viewsonic with Jacked up Batts). Put a MS Surface on site with xPanel same ip ID as an iPad and when a ipad fails see if the Surface or NUC pc etc is still good if so then call Steve Jobs.
