Free Fusion

Hi All,

It used to be possible to download Fusion for free so you can get a feel on how it works. I can't seem to find the link anymore. Is it still available?

Thank you,

Keith Borgstrom

Yes. It's called RoomView Express. Here's the link:

Not the same thing... contact Fusion Support Group (those three initials at ) for help setting up a demo server.

"Yes. It's called RoomView Express"

RoomView Express is not Fusion...

Might be good for someone with less than 250 rooms that doesn't need all the bells and whistles in Fusion, but still *not* the same thing...

So I contacted FSG and their response was "Send us a PO and we'll get you set up" WTF?

As a CSP I should be able to obtain the demo version, right?

"As a CSP I should be able to obtain the demo version, right?"

Part of my gold exam was to program a Fusion system, and they wouldn't let me setup a free demo account to do my exam, so probably not.

"As a CSP I should be able to obtain the demo version, right?"

I've tried wrestling with our rep about this several times - they want us working with the product, they should give us accounts WE can access, set up, tweak, etc.? They don't, so guess what?? I don't work with Fusion.? I don't have and can't GET experience with it, which I tell the folks I work for every time it comes up.? It reinforces the whole set of SSI modules we have to tie into Crestron programs - which we're supposed to coordinate with the project's Fusion server guru.? I leave it up to "higher-ups" at my company to figure out who the "guru" is going to be (The client's employee?? Someone we hire as a contractor?? Option C?? I don't know/care!) for a project and get myself back to writing AV control code...

That must be recent... I was talking to them about setting up an AWS install for testing in January.? Oh well.? Guess that's another reason not to use Fusion, not that I was running short.

Did you specify on-premises install?? I'm not surprised they don't want to set up a cloud server for you for free, but you should be able to set it up/have FSG set it up on your own hardware.

This is what the release notes say:
New Features
  • Starting with 11.1.5000, a new install of Crestron Fusion no longer supports any connection without a license. The software requires a license to make any room connection.

So if you can get FSG to get you a version prior to 11.1.5 you should(?) be okay

You must be kidding!
That's like the BS numerous security companies practice where employees have to buy the company branded clothes?for ridiculous prices before getting on the first job.

How about Fusion seminars? Do they still hand-out VMs with a pre-installed Fusion server on an unlicensed Win2k12 server, good to go for 90 days or so?
?

Assuming you took the same exam as I did, implementing the SIMPL side of Fusion did not require any testing against an actual server.

Correct, Jeremy, but there was no way to verify that the implementation worked with Fusion Cloud if you have no account to run it on.? This probably isn't an issue for commercial programmers who have used Fusion in the past but, for resi programmers like me, it made it pretty much impossible for me to know if what I did was going to work properly.

Send it to Crestron and let them verify it...

I'm pretty sure I did not take the same exam as you. I am on a different continent and at the time of my exam things were handled a bit differently over here.

Every participant got a VM to work with. Nothing wrong with that, it only required more preparation beforehand.
