CEN-COM Falling Offline/Excessive Update Requests
I recently pulled a CEN-COM off my "shelf-o-random-Crestron stuff" to use for with the serial interface for my alarm panel (with the eventual idea being to put it on its own processor)
Anyway I've noticed that it will occasionally fall offline (yet I can still ping it from the processor, and I can ping the processor from it), and other times it will generate an update request with every string that it receives from the panel. Aside from dropping it out a 3rd floor window, any ideas to make the thing more stable? I realize the CEN-COM like most of the other "first generation" CEN-stuff has been pushed far, far, far to the side [which is too bad, because the CEN-CN actually seems like quite a useful product]. Lincoln,
2 Things come to mind. Are you running it on a gig switch? And do you have it set to auto-negotiate? Try setting it to 100/Full or 10/Full, I've seen similar issues like this with other Crestron Ethernet stuff. It's on a 10/100 switch; but since (AFAIK) all of the early CEN-stuff was limited to 10/Half you may have a good point. The SHOW INTERFACES STATUS from the switch (Cisco Catalyst 2920) shows that it had auto negotiated to 10 meg half duplex, but I'll try forcing the configuration just to eliminate that as a possibility. (Note to self for when I need to change it back: interface Fa0/7) Lincoln -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS Applications Engineer ControlWorks Consulting, LLC V: 440.729.4640 x1107 F: 440.729.0884 I: Crestron Authorized Independent Programmer -----Original Message-----

The CEN-COM was after and before my time, it came and went while I was on a
brief hiatus from this industry so I was never up on the specs. They pretty much killed it when the QM-RMC came out. It should be interesting to see if this fixes your issue or at least improves it. Mark On Sun, Jan 25, 2009 at 10:15 PM, Lincoln King-Cliby < lincoln@...> wrote: Mark, |
CEN-COM was indeed during the first generation of equipment - X
Generation. You may wish to stick it behind a router to cut traffic that the thing is seeing, they really didn't handle even moderate traffic very well. --- In Crestron@..., Lincoln King-Cliby <lincoln@...> wrote: to use for with the serial interface for my alarm panel (with the eventual idea being to put it on its own processor) can still ping it from the processor, and I can ping the processor from it), and other times it will generate an update request with every string that it receives from the panel. thing more stable? I know sooner or later I'm going to go searching for it, and where else would I put it? At least I didn't include the IP address and password for the switch :D

Anyway to the original question... Forcing the duplex didn't seem to help. I added a Ethernet offline manager with the intent of tickling the update request digital as needed, but I noticed since adding it (at least last night) every time the CEN-COM dropped off line it popped right back. I'm trying to avoid adding another router to my network, but Foo's suggestion may be the last option before I finally throw the thing across the room and get a QM-RMC or DIN-AP2 for it. -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS Applications Engineer ControlWorks Consulting, LLC V: 440-729-4640 x1107 F: 440-729-0884 I: Crestron Authorized Independent Programmer -----Original Message-----

1) Tape it to the switch???

2) With the unit on a switch, unless there is a lot of broadcast traffic, it should not be seeing much traffic. If it is broadcast traffic, maybe disabling it on the port. I do not know enough about the protocol but does Crestron use broadcast to the devices? Chris -----Original Message-----

CADDX polls things in a tight loop based on the number of zones you
told the module. Might have to insert a short delay somewhere to cut back on the endless flow of traffic. --- In Crestron@..., Lincoln King-Cliby <lincoln@...> wrote: use for with the serial interface for my alarm panel (with the eventual idea being to put it on its own processor) |
