Re: CEN-GWEXER Gateway end of sale notice

The GW-1 replaces it. It also controls the wireless shades.

CEN-GWEXER Gateway end of sale notice

I just got an end-of-sale notice from Crestron that includes both CEN-GWEXER and CEN-GWEXER-PWE.? With these gone what is the go to gateway for Crestron EX light switches/dimmers?

Thanks

Jay

Re: Weird behaviour with sound on a Crestron DMPS system to a Dolby processor CP950

Sounds like a fancy solution,? but playing with VLC...it doesn't fit.

Re: D3 Data files.

Update: I updated my software about a week ago (DBs, TBx, D3, SMW) and this seemed to fix the schedule.dat file being properly loaded/updated to the NVRAM/D3_Pro folder as expected.

I also see that there are new DBs and TBx updated as of 2/27/24 where the TBx notes indicate that the Schedule.dat fix is done (It seemed fixed before this) so we have that going for us!...

The CP950 might be installed for a reason as it is a real cinema processor required to playback cinema DCI content.

If that?s not a requirement, then i?d agree to ditch it.

Sounds like you have already have the answer, ditch the CP950 and go with one you know works¡.No point trying too push the bolder uphill, you¡¯ll waste you life trying to resolve manufacturer incompatibilities.

Re: Weird behaviour with sound on a Crestron DMPS system to a Dolby processor CP950

Thank you all for your input.
The problem is that any teacher (it's a classroom in a 7.1 movie theater) can come with a different PC everytime and to make sure that every device is compatible is not practical.
In theory the sound should come up, they have other classrooms with the same setup but with another brand of surround processor that works OK, so really it's the interfacing of the DMPS with the Dolby processor that's problematic.

We noticed as well like some mentionned, that some PCs change something everytime a video start or stops, or if you have a short program in loop on VLC for example, everytime it restarts, the stream stops for a fraction of second, but this is picked up right away by the destination, except in that specific configuration.

We are still searching.

Thanks.

Re: Weird behaviour with sound on a Crestron DMPS system to a Dolby processor CP950

Not sure this helps other than to confirm we have multiple DMPS-4K-350-C units with no audio problems using Windows based dual screen displays, Apple TVs, client windows based PCs and HDMI input for guess connections.? ?Never seen any audio delays switching inputs however the connection is different.? ? We route DM3 and 4 to 4K Scalers to presentation displays and the Audio out is taken directly from the DMPS speaker connections using Prog Audio to ceiling speakers.

No audio delays or pausing this way.

Some players/drivers have a setting to play ¡°silent noise¡± when no content is playing to keep the HDMI audio sync steady.

Perhaps it?s worth looking into that direction.

Hi Olivier,

I experienced similar issues with different AV products. Some sources seem to stop outputting embedded audio after a few seconds after audio playback is stopped. I noticed that the AV device showed "no audio present". It seems that the "info frames" in the HDMI signal are changed after a few seconds once audio is stopped.
Maybe the DMPS needs a few seconds to detect the audio signal once playback is resumed. Check settings that might speed up audio signal detection after resuming audio.

Best regards

Re: Weird behaviour with sound on a Crestron DMPS system to a Dolby processor CP950

I wonder if the PC has some sort of software that changes the audio format, and when you start video it switches it to PCM.

I would try:
Enable applications exclusive option in the sound card settings
Change output formats (16vs24bit; 44.1, 48, 96, 192khz)
Different PC

Weird behaviour with sound on a Crestron DMPS system to a Dolby processor CP950

Edited

Hello all, I need your input for this weird behaviour.

System:
DMTX-4KZ-302C ---> DMPS-4K-350C -->? HDMI out to a Dolby CP-950 sound processor.
DMPS and enpoints are configured to pass untouched audio streams throughout.

On a windows PC, either through web browser or youtube or a playback with VLC, the sound starts around 5s after the video, it's not out of sync, it just "unmutes" 5 seconds later than the video.
If I press "pause" on the video for more than 10 seconds, same thing happens, the video starts moving, but no sound for around 5s, again, A and V are perfectly in sync after this mute period.
If I unpause the video for less than 10s, the sound starts right away along with the picture.

Does not matter if I use 5.1, 7.1 or stereo.

If I connect directly into an HDMI input on the DMPS it's the same problem.

If I connect the PC directly into the Dolby sound processor it's OK, sound starts at the same time.

If I use a MAC computer, the problem does not show, I can pause for as long as I want and the sound comes right away.

We tried an EDID emulator between the DMPS and the CP950 so Crestron sees something else (it was confirmed) and the problem remains.

I'm puzzled,? what happens in a PC when you start or pause a video for more than 10s?

Any insight appreciated.
Thanks for any input.

Edit---- We found a windows PC that didn't exhibit the problem, it's a Acer gamer PC with obviously a better sound card.

Re: Push notification for CP2E processor

I would just find an old RMC3, which will run the prowl interface and EISC it to your CP2e program...way less of a science project...

Depending on the size of the program you could also just convert the program to run on the RMC3 and change your CP2e to be a slave for the ports...

Re: Push notification for CP2E processor

Short of upgrading the processor, I have this crazy (but reliably working) idea of using an industrial-quality Raspberry Pi (such as the Iono Pi from Sfera Labs, $300) and using it to do work that's not in the specific Crestron processor's wheelhouse, and then use basic signaling (such as contact closure, TCP/UDP, or RS232) between the Crestron processor and the Raspberry Pi to trigger things.? I am using this solution to solve this exact problem and it's working well (except I'm using straight SMS rather than Pushover, just as preference...but could have gone either way).

I really wish there was a PAC4 to replace the PAC2.? Because of that, I totally understand the reluctance to call "upgrade" the cleanest solution to some of this 2-series equipment, especially where it's doing its job just fine.? That's part of why I invested my effort into trying out RPi's as an adjunct solution.

Out of the box, a Raspberry Pi will reliably boot to a desktop or shell prompt (your choice) in under 30 seconds, and run only whatever is configured to start on boot.? It doesn't boot up demanding your permission to install updates, login to your microsoft account, or try the latest subscription offering (like Windows), it won't even ask for a password (unless you configure it to)... it just fires up and does your thing 24/7.? No open network services unless you install some, so not updating the device is no big deal.? The default desktop install includes a basic Python IDE and debugger (Thonny) so it's immediately useful out of the box for scripting away some sort of task (just connect a monitor and keyboard, or enable built-in VNC and log in remotely).

By "your thing", in my wheelhouse that will be a Python script that simply listens for the Crestron trigger of my choice, and then takes the actions I choose.? I have developed a pretty robust Python script that uses an API provided by Twilio to provide some very rich text messaging triggered by Crestron processors, including the ability to have the user reply to the texts and ask the Crestron processor to do things (all using basic Serial I/O or TCP, they work equally well).

I've created S+ modules to send small or large numbers of Crestron serials (digital/analog/string) over a single RS232 or TCP connection where I want richness that's greater than a single digital.? Example, a Raspberry Pi responder that allows all controlled doors and fireplaces to be checked with a single text (the word "check") and it responds with which left on/open on the Crestron system.

The ability to do text messaging on a Crestron processor is, well, you get what you get here -- but easy to do and customize on a Raspberry Pi, especially where ChatGPT (which knows Python far better than S+) can provide quality help with Python when it's not your native programming language (it isn't mine).

The advantage with Python is the number of third party libraries out there (so talking to Twilio is as simple as installing Twilio's library... prowl and pushover are both supported by libraries) and the fact that Python is targeted toward beginners and people who just want to get things done, while being robust enough to be used in serious business.? ChatGPT can provide working examples of basic usage of all of these libraries and then you just take it from there.

Push notification for CP2E processor

Hello everyone,

One of my client have an old Crestron setup. Now he wants to receive push notifications on his mobile. Prowl & Pushover don't works with 2 series processors. Can anyone help me.

Re: Embedded Video Smart Graphic Issue #smartgraphics #crestronapp

I have only noticed the overlay when using h264. I haven't had the same issue with MJPEG

Re: Embedded Video Smart Graphic Issue #smartgraphics #crestronapp

I have found that some cameras (non-axis) will leave a video over-lay on screen when the iOS Crestron Go app is closed or put in the background.
This is despite using the same join for enable/disable video as the subpage.
This is an intermittent bug and not always reproducible. Never happens with Axis camera streams.

Re: Embedded Video Smart Graphic Issue #smartgraphics #crestronapp

As long as the Video is ¡°enabled¡± it will show over all other SP. you need to enable/disable the video with your SP visibility.

I tried adding a subpage with the just the embedded video smart graphic. I was able to confirm that it is just the embedded video smart graphic image that is "floating" on top of everything, and it is transparent as I can access the button functions lying under the video graphic. I then rolled back the Smart Graphics back to 2.15.02.09 (2018) and still had the same results. The video smart graphics stream is even riding on top of the Crestron App when it is refreshing and does not change during the app refresh.?
